Excellent work again from Lucas in the build-up to the goal. He has hit another level over the past few months.
Neither Hojbjerg or Ndombele are showing for the ball, so the only options for Regi are run or pass to Lucas - both of which are easy to predict
Gio's response to the goal: walk past Vini and ask Lucas why the hell he didn't pass sooner, then congratulate Vini
1-0 HT. A very mixed half for me, though we did prevent Villa from creating much. Looked a bit dodgy at the back on some occasions, didn't dominate the ball and had limited success in their final third. Moura played well, but our midfield looked a bit unsure of what to do going forward.
A pretty drab first half but with Sanchez’s sloppiness aside we haven’t had too much to deal with. Rodon and Tanganga both impressing so far. Nice play between Lucas and Kane for Vinigoal’s goal, Lucas having a good game too.
Half decent in more ways than one. First 15 quite bright but then let Villa dominate for a while with goal against run of play. Rodon, Tanganga and Lucas the best so far. Reggie too, but needs to learn when to pass. Mike Dean unarguably Villas player of the half.
Not great....but that's such an improvement from Thursday, The set-up looks completely unpractised but hasn't everything else that we've done for some time. Let's hope that we don't resort to defending the 18 yard line in the second half.
He's had a few nice touches and short, quick passes, but he looks rusty as hell and he's nowhere near involved enough.
Nothing new. In fact we're reverting to Jose's first(only?) tactical idea. Instead of Davies tucking in and being the third centre back, it's Tanganga doing it on the right. Doing that with 2 upfront, whilst we still lack any plan for controlling the game and beating some half-pressing from Villa, hardly the big change Jose was supposedly bringing tonight. We even have Lo Celso and Ndombele out there yet all we have is a bit of pace down the flank and long balls. Jose looks like he's 10 years behind the rest of fooball with the way he sets us up. Still, 1-0
