It pains me to see such talent sitting on the bench or playing for our reserves week in week out. I'd love to see the likes of Charlie Taylor, Alex Cains, the Turner brothers, Thompson ect to go out on loan just like many before them like White, Lees ect I think their all capable of playing to League Two level or at the very worst the top of the Conference Prem. I like the look of Taylor especially. Looks to have a deadly cross and decent defending at left back as well (just in case god forbid White was to be injured we can stick a 24 hr return clause in). And hearing good things of that German kid Monty Gimpel.

After the last few years of dead wood coming through the academy (like Tom Elliot) and any decent players been snapped up by Chelsea or Man City (like Tom Taiwo and Micheal Wood who's careers have gone down the pot, but there fault for been stupid money grabbing tw*ts) it's nice to see some real talent coming through the youth team.

Don't forget Danny Rose and Fabian Delph (although a little older when he left).

I read elsewhere that Gimpel looks awful. But I agree, loan spells seem to be the best thing for our youngsters. No need to rush into it mind. They all still have plenty of time yet to develop in whichever way is best for them. I would like to hear more about their progress though, it has to be said. Something like the Arsenal Young Guns blog or even a regularly updated section on the official website wouldn't go amiss.

where did you hear that? Before we signed him both manure and arsenal were after him. He decided to come here as he thought it was the best thing for his career. I have only heard good things about the lad

But yea agree about the young guns type thing for the official website

I read the Gimpel thing on another forum. I obviously don't believe it straight away, but it's just to add a bit of balance to the argument. I don't think our current crop of youngsters look especially promising.

Boro game - looked well out of his depth (which was understandable when we were down to nine men and one goal behind).

Hull game - came on late and did practically nothing.

Donny League Cup game - showed a few signs of good stamina and hassled the Donny centre midfield a bit. Again, hard to say much because he wasn't massively involved. Didn't look like much of a forward-going player and I remember him being touted as a defender when he signed so maybe his preferred position is now as a holding mid. It would be good if he matured soon!

Ipswich game - wasn't there but heard very little of his name on the radio.

In conclusion, there's not that much to know! That's why I think it would be useful if we had some crazy fan or even club operative who wrote up a few match reports of youth and reserve games so we could know more about these youngsters when they actually play 90 minutes against similar quality opposition. From just going to the competitive games, it's hard to tell what Thompson might bring to the table a couple of years down the line. If he's showing good signs by January, it might be worth chucking him into League Two to see how he copes. It's a very physical division and that's something he'll have to get used to if his preferred position is as a combative midfielder.

Maybe it is better not to tell the world about our emerging talent...

Apparently Leeds Management think otherwise on Gimpel. Reckon he had a good game behind closed doors earlis week.

As to loaning out our youngsters, I also think it will be a good thing for their careers. Is there a particular time when this can be done? It might just be that they'll go in January for short loan period's or at the start of next season. Either way, having already played for our 1st team when we were a bit short, finding them the right club to help bring them through to the next level shouldn't be too difficult.

taylor needs to play some regualr football in a physical league like L1 or L2 to build his match fitness, he struggled towards the end of the palace game as the extra physicality over reserve/youth football looked to have taken its toll on him

Missed out on Elliot Kebbie though. Everyone (apart from Leeds fans) were saying how it was great that he was of to Barcelona and how he would massively improve, yet if it he went to Chelsea or City academy they'd be saying how they never develop their own players. They ignore the fact he'll spend the next couple of years in the Barca B and C, if he makes any senior appearances at all it will be one or two in a mickey mouse spanish cup before eventually either spending his career at Barca B or been sold on to someone else at Leeds' loss. He could of stayed at Leeds, broke into the first team, helped got us promoted, played in the Premier League been a huge success but instead he'll spend his Barcelona career dwelling in the reserves or if he turns out to be a massive success, he might just make the bench, even the best players in the world wouldn't make Barca's starting 11 (I doubt Wesley Snieder would be on starting line up).

It's one of the reasons I can't stand Barcelona, so much hypocrisy. Chelsea spend big and they are accused of buying the league and been detrimental to football, Barcelona spend big (Cesc Fabregas, David Villa, Alexis Sanchez) and no one blinks an eye. Same for the youth policies, Barca's academy isn't as amazing as pundits made out, it's just the soak up the best talent from the entire of Catalonia, surrounding areas and the rest of the world (like Kebbie) so they are obviously going to have talented players. Although I still cheered for them vs the Scum, but when it comes to El Clasico, I'm all for Madrid.

well yea but my understanding was he moved to spain to live there and then joined the barca academy rather than moved TO join the barca academy. It doesnt really matter either way, its a talent that has been lost but we will get compensation for him anyway (hopefully)
