If you're a passive observer, as we are, it makes no difference. It's just a state of mind. An optimist has a happier disposition that sometimes gets deflated, a pessimist is permanently miserable.
Well, it depends on the reaction to the actual event doesn't it? If they are a faux optimist that explodes in rage when things go wrong its not worth much. If anything they are the most annoying people. they are the deluded twats that go about annoying people by burying their heads in the said and insult peoepl for daring to cross them and then absolutely explode. Raging pessimists only annoy people when they are right as long as they don't say i told you so they are not that bad. they are just releived when things go right. In general happy people who are also realistic are where you want to be most of the time as you can have the high at the good result and not not to disappointed or at least see that peopel tried ther best.
