Don't know if it''s been posted, but it seems the on-line system will now accept bookings for over 50's.

I couldn't get the website for me, rang the helpline and there is still a glitch for 50 to 54s. Anyone else getting the same?

The EU will unveil on Wednesday plans to reopen summer travel to and within the bloc with the help of a new coronavirus passport, a scheme that would be welcomed by the tourist sector but is also raising discrimination concerns.

    Reuters reports:

The proposed, EU-wide “green digital certificate” would collate information on vaccinations, tests and Covid recovery to let travellers cross borders freely again after a year of curbs that have left beaches and famous landmarks deserted.

The 27-member EU’s executive will also put forward an option to allow in outsiders with proof of vaccination, including those inoculated with Russian, Chinese or other non-Western doses.

But with the number of EU Covid-related deaths above 550,000 and less than a tenth of the population inoculated, countries including France, Belgium and Germany fear discrimination. Others said tests or quarantine might still be necessary.

EU countries will be under pressure to agree a common position swiftly for their 450 million people. The task is complicated, however, by uncertainty over whether those inoculated can still transmit the virus, a sluggish vaccine rollout and some public scepticism about the campaign.

I strongly suspect this is for internal politics, as I gather there is a lot of disgruntlement among the citizens of the EU in how the vaccine programme has been handled - both with national state and the EU itself. I could say (a lot) more but this is a great thread and I don't want to run the risk of it being ruined by the bloody B word.

It is very interesting what's going on over there though. Someone was explaining to me the other day that in their country (Austria I think) that the perception is that Pfizer is the luxury, top of the range vaccine that is being given to all the important and rich people, and the plebs are getting the cheap and crappy AZ vaccine. So the whole AZ approach of agreeing to supply it at cost is being held against them. I think our idea that other countries handled this whole thing better than us may not necessarily be true when it comes to our closest neighbours. It's hit the UK hard in terms of economy and deaths, but its beginning to look like we'll bounce back quicker thanks to the vaccines. I'd rather we hadn't had the deaths and job losses, but if we hadn't, maybe the vaccine uptake wouldn't be so good.

Longer term we may be better off, although that's very hard to accept for those of us that have lost friends and/or family before their time.

The UK is going to face a "significant reduction" in vaccine supplies from 29 March onwards, according to a letter from NHS England.

The letter - which has been sent to local vaccination sites across the country - says volumes for first doses are going to be "significantly constrained".

Disruption could last for four weeks, and the government's vaccines taskforce has told the health service that this is linked to "reductions in national inbound vaccines supply".

I think the potential 'delays' should be kept in context, as we're well ahead of the initial schedule as far as I can work out.

It’s actually the Phizer jab they are threatening to stop due to us not sending the Oxford one to them, which seems a little funny as a fair few countries in the EU have suspended it’s use.. go figure

The cynic in me would suggest that we will be sending the EU vaccines to bail them out of the ****
