A serving Metropolitan police officer will face trial on 25 October, charged with the kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard.

    why such a wait?

Quite a normal period of time for it to come to the crown. Also gives both sides chance to prepare their case.

From the charges, I'm guessing he will have to enter a plea of guilty or not, regarding kidnapping. Then another plea for the one of murder. Ie did he intend to kill her.

Pre-trial first and it allows both sides enough time to put their cases together.

That must be the pre-trial, then. The defence and prosecution will discuss any issues with the case that either side might question and he'll enter his plea. Then it will be a date for a trial or sentencing. I've got a feeling he'll do himself in the first chance he gets and might not be around by July.

I think he knows he's banged to rights which is why he's already put himself in hospital twice since being locked up. If he's around I'd expect a guilty plea. If he goes down the insanity route it'll be kicked to the kerb and he'll be made to stand trial, imo.

I was thinking he'll top himself before it comes to trial. Unless it was a cop that got in his cell on two seperate ocassions and gave him a kicking. I might believe the latter could happen once, but not twice.

The whole thing just sounds proper fooked up. Takes a woman from Clapham, in what I think was possibly a hire car, so where was his own vehicle. The family home is in Deal, but he drives to Great Chart a village just outside Ashford, to dump the body in a buildings bag.

I found your comment interesting the other day, that he finished his 12 hour shift at 7am. I could have sworn that I read an earlier report somewhere suggesting 9pm, ie that would have coincided with her departure from a friends.

It's all in the wording though mate. Not on duty at the time, does not mean he wasn't on duty before the crime.

See this from The Mirror, btw not what I was referring to earlier, but just yet another take on the timings...

It is claimed he worked a six-hour relief shift at the American Embassy in Nine Elms, about three miles from where Ms Everard went missing, until 8pm the night of the alleged abduction.

Yet another report as I said earlier suggested he finished at 9pm.....and Saf has seen one saying 7am, so who knows.

This doesn't give an exact time, but I definitely read he started work at 7pm and was due to work a 12hr shift.

A police officer charged with the kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard finished work in London at least nine hours before she went missing, a court has heard.

Details on Diplomatic Protection Officer Wayne Couzens, 48, and his shift pattern were disclosed at his first Old Bailey appearance this morning.

Apparently he also had a black eye apart from the injuries on his head so I think he's definitely been handed a leaving present from his former colleagues somewhere along the line.

It all sounds amateurish, as if he has tried to be clever hiring a rental car (that definitely shows it is pre-meditated) and didn't know it would easily be traced back to him. I'm not sure I even want to hear the finer details of what happened when it all comes out, I have a feeling it won't be for the faint hearted.

All very odd mate. I see the cops were searching the area of Sandwich as well, now that would make more sense to me, from the Deal perspective, because it's a damn sight nearer than Great Chart. Made me wonder if he tried to move the body again after a few days, hence how it ended up in Ashford.

Pretty sure some of it is to do with covid social distancing for the jurors finding suitable places for trials to be heard etc . I know by then it should not apply , but think that other trials have been pushed right out because of the current restrictions if that makes sense .
