... if it's true get top dollar and move on. The time for losing players cheaply, or being held to ransom, need to have ended. https://the72.co.uk/227319/middlesb...striker-charlie-wyke-to-aid-goalscoring-woes/ "MIDDLESBROUGH LOOKING TO SIGN SUNDERLAND STRIKER CHARLIE WYKE TO AID GOALSCORING WOES."
We could get royally ****ed here this is the gamble of not doing contracts in good time. Another one on the previous regime.
Don’t think he’d score many for them though. They’re not a “cross the ball” team from when I’ve seen them. Watmore is all about pace and running in behind. chances are it’s bullshit and a tabloid making a link because he’s from Boro!! edit .. and it’s “football league world”. Surprised Phillips hasn’t had a say on it!!
If we go up then I doubt he'll be going anywhere. Especially as the team will now know how the new owner wishes the club to move on.
I just don’t think anyone will want to leave. Some will because they won’t step up, but the ones we want to keep will want to remain I’d imagine. We are a club on a massive upward curve, why would you wanna step of the train?
Which is why the people who KLD brought in need to earn their corn now, and I think they will. If Wyke indicates he wants to leave in the summer we need to alert every club and get a pre-contract agreement. Of, if Johnson wants to retain him, let's offer him a good Championship contract now or another L1 if we don't go up. Whatever the case we want players who are here for the right reasons.
This is nobody's fault. He hadn't earned a new contract until recently. And the club have quite understandably not been offering contracts to first teamers so as not to upset the apple cart for players that aren't getting contracts. They might have / want to re-visit that decision though.
There's no way we get a transfer fee for him in any way. He'll either leave on a free or sign a new contract with us. I won't lose any sleep over it, 3 months ago I wouldn't have even kept him myself so can't blame anyone at the club. And if he wants to leave he wants to leave. I have no doubt that if we want to keep him (and I guess we would), that the club will make him a good offer to stay. I wasn't confident of that with the last regime but I am now.
We've a stack of players out of contract in the summer. It's very difficult for us to offer contracts until we know which division we're in. If we take Wyke as an example,if we go up,does anyone think he'd want to trade us for Boro? If we don't,and he fancies his chances there rather than another season with us in the 3rd Division, good luck to him.
Wyke doesn't have long left so we'd be entitled to offer him a contract extension. Having just won a trophy, and looking good for promotion, this is a good time for talks. But, and it's a big but, I have a suspicion Wyke has been offered talks and has said 'there's no rush'. I think he's been made aware that clubs are interested and he's hedging his bets .... ... I'd put good money on this story been agent engendered.
I thought he was one of the players who had a one year option still left on his contract , not 100% but I am sure I read it somewhere , anyone else know if this is the case .
It is a badly written article as well, though. It talks about us being 8 points behind the leaders, Peterborough. Hull are top! It seems like the usual gossip being padded out and peddled about. Wyke may want yo move on if his contract runs out, we may be prepared to let him go if we've got other targets in mind, and much as he's been great this season, we still don't know if he can cut it at championship level, so there could be doubt on all sides about new deals. All I'll say is what ever will be will be.
Wyke and Jones Both came through their youth system.... https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...underlands-charlie-wyke-jordan-jones-20184863 This is just a little reminder of how important promotion is for us. Sunday was all fun and games and exciting to have a little bit of something to celebrate for once, but not getting promoted this year would be a bitter pill to swallow.
Nothing we can do now to get a fee for Wyke if he wants to go, we can’t take a fee now we’ve nowhere to go. I’m confident he’s happy here though and the new regime get him tied down. No longer are we ran by cowboys on a sugar rush. I do think he would get goals in the Championship, but that’s not to say we can’t buy better. Adam Armstrong is the stand out for me if it weren’t for his Mag links.
