Very nervy from most today .. Westy showed some guts with a lot of par saves but sadly he needed those putts for birdies not pars .. but still second successive week a second place finish so on the plus side I think that has cemented his place in the Ryde Cup and probably now in top 25 owgr. Would like to think he is saving it for the Masters .. ya never know.
Lets hope so , another positive for me was that he didnt lose it from his own doing which has happened in the past , it was only lost due to Thomas having two great rounds when it mattered ..
This exactly, he didn't blow it as such, just didn't play his best game when it mattered, but credit to Thomas for putting together a good last round.
Interesting his son is on his bag at the Masters (maybe they're the rules) ... yesterday I think it needed a seasoned caddy to get him over the line. Fabulous he shares these experiences with his fiancee, but a mature caddy head yesterday would have got the job done. Interestingly he said on the BBC his legs had gone late on Saturday, the heat and the tension may have played their part. I have to say, the drives Thomas hit on 16 and definitely the last were not intentional, both mishits that just happened to work out for him...
To be fair I disagree .. I think the presence of Helen on the bag helps his mental approach.. and in fact he himself has admitted times when she has helped situations by her manner and knowledge of the correct things to say during tough times which helps to keep it real .. it is very noticeable that when she is on the bag his game improves immeasurably, as do his results. I think Lee it at that stage where having the presence of Helen or his son on the bag helps to relax him and makes it more fun for him. Let's be fair there aint many who know Augusta better then Lee so can't see a caddie helping him too much round there.
Thought exactly the same about those two drives ... and I think the son being on his bag is not a rule as such at Augusta which is what I first thought when you mentioned it , who knows ?
Lee had always promised his son to put him on the bag should he ever qualify for the Masters again .. it isn't a rule .. its a personal choice and a father holding a promise.
Normally a case of Westwood's putter letting him down, but his driving yesterday was an utter shambles, like Raary, he just doesn't seem to have the chestnuts
