I still have the days of the Brixton Riots engraved on my brain and it's fine line between policing and tipping people over the edge. Tonight was one of them nights, where the police will be very lucky if they don't get a backlash for this. They've had a lot of authority over the last year, with people being in lockdown, but they really do need to remember, policing is by consent in this country and if you get it wrong, you can end up turning a peaceful vigil into a full scale riot.
What’s that got to do with them wading in to end a vigil? How about we start with what they could have done differently there. Then maybe ask them what they did about a bloke getting his cock out in Maccie D’s a few days before he murdered a woman.
Exactly. I lived through the days of Toxteth riots when the filth were seen as being the filth as they were viewed as the henchmen of Thatcher, same as they were during the miners strike. We’ve come a long way since then, but that tonight was a complete ****ing disgrace and it’s got some high level paws on it.
No ... you compared us to other "species" Do animals have anti murder laws? Do animals have police policing their territory to prevent crime? You point was, is and always will be bollocks. If we "need" this fear then why have laws at all? Just let any **** carry a knife or gun and do what the **** they want...fear is good after all. Why fight terrorism, tyranny or fascism? Surely the fear of persecution is a good thing for the human race? Like I said...what you wrote was moronic. Your lack of empathy and understanding is pretty sad tbh
The Met old bill took a ****ing long time to recover from their truly appalling behaviour towards the Stephen Lawrence case, to the family and campaigners. Tonight reminds me of the complete stupidity back then...they could set back community relations and trust in them for years if they do not rectify things very quickly.
Met Police have so many questions to answer at the moment, it is no surprise people are getting upset. As you pointed out to Captain earlier a Met Cop, kidnapped and killed a woman. Met Cops have a lot to answer over two complaints of indecent exposure, now tonight the Met Police have not covered themselves in glory again. They've now lost the respect of many an MP from all parties, let alone losing the respect of women.
Yes I did compare us to other species, but strictly in relation to fear being necessary to survive. Look mate I wasn't discussing the rights and wrongs in this, but I was merely and correctly pointing out that if you remove fear you remove safety. You've not understood something and argued a seperate point while being aggressive in the process.. Perhaps I didn't explain it well enough the 1st time.... My point was factually sound and because you didn't understand it you dismissed it as bollocks. I agree with you on the entirely seperate arguments you presented in relation to my post.
Protest according to some... please log in to view this image Jess Temby @JessTemby · 2h I was there tonight. We were laying flowers with tears in our eyes, mourning peacefully. Then the police just barged in. How can we ever trust them again?
Fear of fire, pain are natural. Claustrophobia, Agoraphobia and a fear of heights are all natural. They exist and always will in a cross section of society to greater or larger degrees. Fight or flight is natural...and a part of human nature. You clearly put that in with the concerns raised by women in the wake of this murder. Fear of being raped, sexually harassed, verbally abused cos you are alone, or cos of what you're wearing, or cos you are exercising in public or having a drink is neither natural not human nature. And these fears are mainly held by women cos of the behaviour of some men. That behaviour is also not natural or human nature. It is the act of ****s. That is why you post was, is and always will be bollocks. As for me bring aggressive ... get a grip ffs. All I said was your point was bollocks...and you accused those at the vigil of acting like precious teenagers
Well in this instance I sincerely hope it doesn't come down to them having turned a blind eye to some disturbing behaviour from one of their own ... ... but you are missing the point ... I was brought up in a pretty rough part of Leicester and had a few hairy moments finding my way home at night throughout my teenage years and into my twenties... but most of the time it wasn't anything I couldn't handle or know that I'd have a fighting chance with ... but as a father of 3 girls I am scared ****less worrying about them because, let's face it, a girl alone has very little chance against a bloke who is intent on assault ... or worse ... So whilst you can't eliminate danger there is plenty you can do to address it / minimise it ... better lighting, walkways, cctv, education ... but most of all increased police (good ones) numbers on the beat in big cities ... and initiatives to help women who are frightened by strange behaviour as they are walking etc ... This girl was abducted and subsequently killed at 9:30 ffs
One of the hotels in Cardiff city centre (The Angel I think) has launched an initiative whereby any woman that has become concerned / spooked as she walks home can walk into their reception and they will contact family or arrange a taxi etc ... they have a 24 hour reception ... hopefully this will become a national thing.
That’s cool but like isn’t that what you’d do in such a situation anyway? just go to the nearest place with other people and get help and more than likely that place would help you?
You'd think so ... but this hotel is near one of the big parks in Cardiff, Sofia Gardens (where the cricket is played) so could be a place that a girl could make for if walking through or around the park and worrying that she was being followed etc ...
This has **** all to do with the conversation.... But I am sure I read that at one point (in the US...New York I think) they advised women being attacked to scream "fire" rather than "rape" as people were more likely to call for help or come running to help ...
I can still remember the days, when every village had a bobby and every town had a police station. Now we've moved coppers off the beat and stuck them behind the wheel of a car. While middle aged pot bellied men monitor our CCTV units, which are more used to collect PCN's or protect commercial property, than to actually safe guard people. I totally get where politics will be to blame for this, but I find it rather strange, that we cannot muster a beat bobby to make women feel safe on the street, but we can manage to rustle up several dozens of coppers to gate crash a vigil. If there are no cops and they were out fighting real crime, there can't be an issue and law and order would be maintained in their absence, unless we want to be petty of course, and say the vigil shouldn't be taking place, then the police hold themselves up as being a target. Especially when one of their own (the Met Police) were responsbile for all of this heartache. I wonder how many crimes went unattended tonight, because the police felt breaking up a vigil was more important.
