Neither does anyone in London, that’s why Palace have to look to Brighton for a rivalry <ok>

.. come to think of it, maybe that`s why Palace signed Jason Puncheon.

I think it's like West Ham really. Both sets of fans really started to dislike each other when we were competing for promotion. I was at Upton Park for the 1-1 draw in the Championship and it was very heated. Similar with Brighton. Naturally, a rivalry will form when you're in direct competition with that team.

Swindon....long story and we are away to them today. If you are interested why such a strange rivalry, this is one version of the tale...

    http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/HeadToHead.asp?Team=Gillingham

A game against Swindon once was nearly called off, because it was felt the Gills had not put in enough security precautions - I think sometime around 2012 but honestly can't remember.

Even in recent years, we still get this... https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/673228.worst-trouble-in-five-years/

    ...........

On a local level, our biggest away following would normally be to Charlton, and they fill our away stand when they come to our place.

Dover in the FA Cup once attracted a lot of local attention and after we lost, things turned very hostile towards the Chairman. Probably one moment I would seriously not like to see replicated again.

Some say Millwall, but Wall are the same wherever they go.

They didn't take kindly to Nigel's comments, and he had a few set-tos with Poyet.

Yeah I get there was some rivalry there when we were competing with each other for promotion. But for me at least, that died out with Brighton pretty much since Poyet left and I haven't seen many others show much disdain toward them from our side at least. West Ham are more dislikeable imo, and that started for me once again with the promotion rivalry, but continued just becasue they are a slimey club.

I wouldn't be surprised if their league position has stirred up old feelings. They'll be feeling the pressure big time, and will be desperate to get something.

Don’t you mean Gravesend & Northfleet that was @brb :)

Did it ever become a rivalry with Maidstone when they hit the giddy heights?

It was a shame the rivalry with Maidstone ended.

One of my old drinking buddies from my youth grew up in Gravesend and supported Gravesend & Northfleet FC (now Ebbsfleet of course) and he never missed an opportunity to put this record on after the pub!...

I had seen Gravesend & Northfleet play as it was then. I can never remember any rivalry between us. Now Ebbsfleet.

In regards to Maidstone, in my younger days, I stood on the terraces (Town End as it was then) with people that would go to Maidstone (non league) games when Gills played away. There was a sort of rivalry before they went bust, but I'd say that was more them than us.

I still know Gills fans now that go to watch Maidstone at their new gaff. Few years back I'd have happily gone down to the National League, because at that time we had Maidstone, Ebbsfleet, Dover, Bromley all in there.

You've also got the likes of Notts County in the National League now, who have a superb ground for non league footie. I've probably seen half the clubs down there play at some point in my life, along with half the Prem Teams, when they go for a wander ocassionally down the leagues, your club having been one of them.
