When I was seven, we moved to Hornsea for a few months. I didn't know many other kids, so I used to hang about the amusement arcades. One day I found one of those 'Allwin' machines was faulty and paid out pennies every time you turned the knob. There was a Laughing Policeman machine which I fed with purloined coins... A good few years later, we lived in a biggish house in the Avenues. We had enough room to take in a lodger; one such was a beatnik-ish art teacher who lent me this, which I played endlessly on our old red-and-grey Dansette:
