Lamela and Davies both very good. Son really shouldn’t have started though, looked leggy at 5 mins. Get him off. Dele’s also been turd. I don’t think he and Kane can play in the same team anymore as Kane occupies the number ten area better than Dele does, which then leaves Dele looking a bit clueless.
Well, that's 45 minutes of my life I'm not getting back... Not the worst, but against a bang average Zagreb its preety poor fare. Lamela the only bright spot. Not enough from Ndombele, Dele & Son. We need to put this to bed and rest up Kane and Son ASAP.
Dele is having a funny one. On the one hand I think he looks sharper in his movements and motions than I’ve seen for a good while, more like the Dele we first saw when he moved. Similar to how Bale has got better, the quickness isn’t so much straight line speed it’s more sharpness of movement. But you’re right, a lot of what he’s trying isn’t coming off and he needs to be going past Kane not occupying the same spaces. Lamela and Davies are having the best games I’ve seen from them for a good time. Hopefully we can get Kane, Son and Tanguy off after 60 mins or so and press our advantage in the tie. Getting out of this one with a clean sheet is going to be key.
Imagine how good he could be if he had a right foot. Not even a great right foot. Just any sort of foot.
He just needs to adjust, as he can play off that movement and get into those spaces. When Kane drops deep he needs to read the game and go wide or run in behind. We're congesting the middle a little too much, as everyone wants to play there.
Said this the other day. Bale looks infinitely more suited to the role of rotating centrally when Kane drops deep.
Zagreb are ranked 35 in Europe, above Valencia, Schalke and Milan among others. We should beat them certainly but no reason to expect a thrashing. They are probably mid table in the PL.
Quite happy with the first half, more of the same with Son rested asap, they will be a threat if we don't keep up the intensity and you never know when we will have a brain fart at the back
