Is he even good enough for the championship
He has proved he can play in this league and good on him
Maybe squad player but I have reservations

Charlie Wyke is facing the prospect of a big few months in his career.

The striker is leading the line for Sunderland in their promotion push and has contributed an impressive 21 goals to the cause already this term.

The Black Cats look like the real deal to go up this term, but if they don’t they could have a problem.

Compare with a year ago when most of us would have driven him to a new club.

I think he's good enough for the championship if he gets the service from the wings that he needs because his heading is by far his strongest attribute. His movement is good enough to beat championship defenders imo and his headers are rock solid and nearly always in the corner.

I always thought he had it in him but the turnaround is astronomical!! It’s not much more than a month ago that people (not me) wanted him replaced still saying he wasn’t good enough despite him being the 3rd top scorer in the division at the time!

It's taken him a long time to recover from a nasty injury and an even worse uninspiring manager.
Now he looks fitter than he's ever done, has movement in the box which was never there before and a manager who has faith in him and I'm sure he can get double figures in a higher league.
Who'd have thought this possible three months ago.

Wyke is a local lad who looks like he is enjoying his football. We have no salary cap anymore, hopefully a stadium with more fans than most championship clubs. Our budget will be one of the better ones outside premier league. In my opinion we can offer everything all but a handful of championship clubs can so I am reasonably sure we could keep him. Same with most of our players to be honest.

When he signed I thought he was a good signing at this level, if that keeper had not committed GBH on him right at the beginning of his career here we might have seen his current form much earlier. I will admit at times I thought he was dreadful but he is fit, confident and benefitting from our current style of football. Well done to him and long may it continue, he seems a really nice lad as well and looks like he is enjoying his football now.

There's a player in there, given the right service, which he has been getting of late.

My worry is if we don't go up, the club have already said some senior players will have to go. One of those is likely to be McGeady, and I don't think Jones would sign for a League One club. So, that's the two people who've been supplying the ammunition for Big Charlie gone. Will he continue to be as potent without them?

Personally, I don't think we'll have to worry about that happening, because we'll be a Championship club again next season, but this highlights just how important it is for us to go up this season.

I said at the start of the season he’s get at least 20 this campaign. Great to see.

He has come on leaps and bounds since the turn of the year
He deserves a chance, but I feel that he may be not good enough
I will be quite happy to be proved wrong

About a month/6 weeks ago there was a thread about who we should be looking to get signed into new contracts of those lads with a few months left.

He wasn't included by the op and I said that for me under his form and improvement since Johnson arrived he needed to be offered a contract. Accepting that he needing replacing for better if possible but until we signed someone who proved they were better and he was relegated to the bench by that striker he should be staying and playing.

Quite few didn't agree as signing him was accepting mediocrity etc... and I could see their point. I'm just a believer in until you get better you keep what you got (caveat to that they have to be at least alright until their position which he was proven to be under Johnson , under Parkie he would have been out in his arse).

Now though I'm not sure we will find better. The improvement in him under Johnson is outstanding really. His movement and finishing are top class, unless.we wanted to go for the small lighting quick striker then what would we replace him with even for the championship? I think until he can't cut it at the level we are in he gets the chance to prove he can.

What a change in a few months. I hope they get a few of the lads tied down soon. Even if some of them are on condition of being promoted only.

We are in a great position of strength in that the players we have aren’t likely to get offers from a bigger club, ever, bar the 4-5 obvious who could maybe look up.

I’m serene about the contracts, not like City are gonna come in with pre contract agreements.

I’m sure Wyke and O’Nien, the 2 most obvious, are more than keen to stay and play with us in the Championship.

Sanderson and Jones are the 2 I hope Johnson is already in the ear of ‘if we go up you staying aye?....’

    I’m happy with wykes improvement
However that’s were I expected him to be at the start of the season
I’m not for one minute knocking his improvement long may it last
Just imho he would struggle in the championship
Nevertheless he needs to be given a chance

Thinking about the improvement in Charlie Boy and some others, I've been wondering how William Anonymous Grigg could have improved if only he'd wanted to, instead of being a lazy bastard :emoticon-0112-wonde

He's scored a few for MK Dons, which suggests that he never wanted to be here (as has been said a few times), but surely he must be wondering about 'what might have been' for him at a club of S.A.F.C.s stature rather than one the size of MK Dons !

The lazy twat will never know 'cos he's probably at the biggest club that he'll ever play for now <doh>

This for me as well. When he scored on Tuesday he did his celebrations and looked canny hard. Long may it continue

Never expected him to be the most lethal striker in the league. He is absolutely on fire at the minute and he is doing a lot more than I ever expected him to be capable of.

Looks like he is really enjoying himself now. Shame for him there are no fans as he deserves the fans to be there showing their appreciation for his current form.
