Considering we rose from League 2 to Championship without spending a penny on player acquisition, and have only spent £120k since, I would say that isn't bad going after 6 months and 35 games Major achievements Beat Reading 1-0 Held Watford and Brentford to a draw Lost by 1 goal to Norwich and Bournemouth and not forgetting beat PNE 4-1 in the FA Cup
Looking at the results we have had I think a couple of games we have been unlucky. As the season has gone on the games that I feel have really cost us this season. Are Rotherham Home, Huddersfield Home & Birmingham Home & Sheff Wed away, you are looking at 10pts there, the problem I feel is you need to score goals & we have only managed 23 so far, as I said earlier Tomey has 25 on his own. Let's be a bit honest JJ a left back was our top goalscorer last season, it's not a new problem. Somebody might know, when was the last time we had a player who scored 20 goals in a season. As I said in an earlier post we hav'nt been hammered apart from a couple of games, we always seem to let the first goal in then it's a struggle with our goalscoring record, any team playing us know if they score first we are in trouble.
There is no doubting we aren't good enough for this League. But didn't we expect that. We now have to look at whether we can string wins together in League 1 next season. One would have thought that with McCleary, Fred; Mehmeti, Muskwe and Uche that we should be able to create goals in L1. I think our defence will be plenty good enough. We need to stop hoofing the ball upfield, hoping Bayo or Uche will pick it up. The reality is it will just come back. I'm not a fan of possession stats but if there were stats on losing possession I think we would be right at the top and I'm not happy with that. I'm not a Manchester C fan, and enjoyed them being put in their place by Man U, but watching them is a lesson in how to keep possession without staying in your own half. They always have someone available for the pass when going forward (their passing accuracy against Man U was 90%!). Our team should study their games and learn from them. The person with the ball should not have to be looking for someone to pass to; he should always have options. This requires a lot of movement off the ball. Without this we will never progress in the Championship and will struggle to get promotion to it next season
Lowest Championship points total in the last 20 years 23 Rotherham 2017 24 Blackpool 2015 26 Stockport 2002 29 Wimbledon 2004 30 Bolton 2016 31 Ipswich 2019 32 Bolton 2019 34 Peterborough 2010
Sheff W leading Norwich 1-0. Wasn't expecting that, even though I had Sheff W & Wycombe in my accumulator
When you look at the dates of our remaining fixtures how are Rotherham going to fit 4 extra games now
In the timeline I looked at they were in the high 30's there were none on 35 but lots between 36 and 40 including Col U 38 2008
