I think that's a bit harsh on those who are genuinely mentally ill and I don't think we could ever create a better world without selfish arseholes looking to gain the system: dole scroungers, fake asylum seekers, dodgy disability claims right up to dubious governments contracts in a time of 'crisis'. lots of people are at it.
The problem with this whole thing is not who's right and who's wrong, or even if someone has or had mental health issues. It's the fact that Ginge and Whinge put their side over on a platform guaranteed to get maximum publicity without having the slightest challenge to any of their assertions. Accordingly, their version of events is viewed as some sort of received truth, particularly in America.
Mental health is a very serious issue and it should not be taken lightly. I have first hand experience of its impacts and it can be devastating to lives. I have heard it said (before the Covid pandemic) that we're in the middle of a mental health pandemic and I think that's possibly true, for reasons that other people have highlighted. However, the term 'mental health' has become the latest buzz word for some people. I have first hand experience of 'mental health' being used as an excuse for poor behaviour when I know for certain that there is no mental health issue. It is too important an issue for it to be trivialised in this way. It must not be used as a 'get out of jail free card' or as an excuse to do as you please because that will distract attention and sympathy away from people who really are struggling with their mental health.
What's with all these different truths being available to select from. I see Oprah used the phrase 'your truth' in the interview. I've also recently heard 'My truth' and 'Their truth' When I was growing up, things were true or not. Seems like now you can say anything you want and claim that because it is your version of the truth its correct. What a load of bollocks.
The whole truth and nothing but the truth. I like many am not sure what to believe, the 'firm' is so used to cover up and say nowt whilst Harry/Megan will undoubtedly embellished matters to spin in their favour. It seems from looking at media, if you are oldish and British you are on the Royals side. If you are younger and live in the USA you are rooting for Megan/Harry against an anachronistic royal family and racist/rabid tabloids.
Yes, this one way public attack really annoys me . Especially as , I seem to remember them doing a remote interview or blog on the wrongs of social media , one of which of course is the knowing that your target cannot respond. This may have been tv rather than internet , but similar conditions
All other issues aside and I'm pleased that here and across the public media attitudes to mental health are being discussed openly. All that aside Harry and Meghan have openly accused the Palace of racism. That particular issue is not going away. Neither the issue of racism in general The issue of Andrew's sexual preferences will not go away, Speculations regarding Harry's DNA test result will not go away The fascination with the Royals and media attention it receives will not go away The speculation that our Royals are a bunch of aristocratic gentry, way out of touch with 'people' as they desperately try to cling onto some sort of Victorian Standard and live some kind of weirdo lifestyle in the process. Also the view that they're a bunch of public purse scroungers can also be heard. Further the Royal Family actually own Canada, have Mining Rights in Australia and is the representative head of state in 16 countries including many non white communities. That issue isn't going away either
One of people I admired most, was the late Tony Bullimore. You may recall he was an elderly Yachtsman who survived in the sea for days, under his boat, after it turned over. On being rescued he was offered the services of 'counsellors'. Thanks, but no thanks, he replied. I'll just talk to my mates in the pub over a beer or five. As I progress through life I've noticed that at time things become fashionable. Psychiatry seemed to appear from nowhere in the 50's when the wealthy would, according to Hollywood, have their own Psychiatrist. Now it's mental heath. It's a buzz word. The problem has been trivialised And most importantly it's doing no favours at all to those that have real problems and need help and care.
All other issues aside and I'm pleased that here and across the public media attitudes to mental health are being discussed openly. All that aside Harry and Meghan have openly accused the Palace of racism. That's an issue of perception. Even Meghan Markle's own father has said it may have been a stupid question rather than racism. That particular issue is not going away. Neither the issue of racism in general. Racism is a serious issue in our society but our approach to it needs to be handled in a similar way to our approach to mental health. The issue of Andrew's sexual preferences will not go away, This is very true Speculations regarding Harry's DNA test result will not go away IMO Harry is the spitting image of Charles. Many of Diana's family are ginger. The Hewitt link is malicious speculation. The fascination with the Royals and media attention it receives will not go away Certainly won't The speculation that our Royals are a bunch of aristocratic gentry, way out of touch with 'people' as they desperately try to cling onto some sort of Victorian Standard and live some kind of weirdo lifestyle in the process. Aren't people entitled to live their lives they way they want? Also the view that they're a bunch of public purse scroungers can also be heard. There's a very strong counter-argument to this regarding tourist interest and the function they play as representatives on the international stage. Further the Royal Family actually own Canada, have Mining Rights in Australia and is the representative head of state in 16 countries including many non white communities. That issue isn't going away either. What's wrong with that? Many countries have actively sought to join the commonwealth, many are very happy being members. There will always be people who don't like the royal family. Those people will always look for anything to criticise them.
Generally most countries tend to think what they are doing is fine and often better than what others are doing. The UK likes to say that we are the world's oldest democracy. Yet we have an unelected second chamber and a hereditary head of state... go figure.
I wouldn't have said that the UK does everything right. I think there is an awful lot wrong with our system of government and the way that politics works in this country. However, I think an unelected second chamber is an excellent thing. In fact, I think it should go back to including hereditary peers as that is one way of ensuring that at least some of its members are not aligned politically with any of the parties that might hold the lower chamber. This would offer a more effective curb on those parties. I also see no problem with a hereditary head of state. Their function is, after all, only ceremonial.
We are the world's oldest democracy and have a sovereign Head of State and Governor General in the Commonwealth States, with absolute authority that is not necessarily benign! (ref: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-53386554). The Royal Family are an amazing institution. The numerous castles and pageantry and soldiers in funny hats etc is a broad representation of our historical culture. They define in many of us what it is to be British and most people in this country are proud of them. The Queen's face -over the decades is possibly the world's most recognisable of all people currently alive! People all over the world come to Britain to get a glimpse of this unique culture. For the island nation of Britain and England, the Queen, Monarchy, Constitution and national identity are all inextricably linked.
^^^^^^^^^^^ Britain is not the worlds oldest democracy, how can you claim to be democratic when half of the population didn't have access to the vote. Women didn't get the vote until 1928 following the Representation Of The Peoples Act.
Even then, the Isle of Man and Iceland have some right to claim they are the oldest with democratic institutions dating back around 1000 years.
The buttons to press these days when eliciting sympathy are race and mental health. She may or may not suffer from problems regarding both But they are the easiest charges to make, need no proof, and are especially handy when the target cannot really answer back. Perhaps she should start with her delicate, oh so aware spouse.
