No one's been charged yet. He's been arrested - presumably on suspicion of abduction - and she's been arrested on suspicion of helping him. All a bit vague at the moment beyond that, and these look like "holding and interviewing" reasons

The words used in the report I heard were unusually upbeat as if there’s a good chance she’s alive.

I really hope that's right. These things usually have a way of turning out badly however

I’d ask our resident “government apologist” but I’m on ignore by him.

As they are now digging up his garden, according to reports, possibly not so much now

We are very very spooked by this investigation. If you look at the houses on the BBC pages where they have cordoned off the street and are searching the drains.
My youngest daughter lived in that house until last year. She walked the path from there to Clapham common every day...often late at night in her running gear. She does not look dissimilar and the same age as the missing girl..

I am so glad she moved back to our village last December.
My heart goes out to the family... Just too scary

But why “scary” Beth ? If it was a murder where the murderer knew the victim then your daughter wouldn’t have been a target.
And if it’s just a random killing, which I feel is unlikely (but possible), couldn’t the same thing happen anywhere...even your village ?is it scary to you ‘cos your daughter lived there ?
Sorry for the questions I’m just genuinely interested in your thoughts as to why you feel like you do.

it's one of those irrational things beth, the fear because one thing happened in the neighborhood and because it's so close to home it resonates. This could have happened anywhere/anytime so best to be vigilant but not look at it like a clapham area thing.

I think the same as you I reckon Bobby.....it becomes more personal because we know an area personally and subconsciously think “that could have been me”, whereas in reality it could happen to you anywhere.
I find human feelings/thinking/emotion very interesting

I know the area well too, Beth. I lived off Clapham Common West Side for 17 years, had friends all around that area and regularly ran around the Common. It does make you think. Clapham Common is huge and although the paths are lit, it only takes someone coming out of an unlit area nearby to snatch a young woman. I'm sure you daughter is safer in your village. The murder squad have been called in now. Immensely sad.

I am assuming ( with absolutely no proof admittedly) that it was a random, probably sex motivated killing.

Of a girl who looks a lot like my daughter, who did similar things ...walk along those roads, in sports gear

It is irrational... But my brain thinks it could have been her.
Irrational ..but I have that side to my character...

I avoid "heart of glass" by blondie before matches...as we always lost when they played it before kick off.

Still today, I won't have music radio on on the way to matches, won't go in a pub with a Juke box. It was a huge problem 20 years ago...not so much now.

    Yes irrational..I agree

Not a Clapham thing, but London parks at night can be dangerous. There were two sisters stabbed to death last year in a Brent park.

If it happened where the photos are. It is on an open street, not in a park.
The area is also actually rather "nice" too.

Yes I know that obviously means nothing.. the worse crimes often take place in nice places

I’d agree it might be irrational......however it’s understandable with the local attachment to the area...adding to that the emotional attachment, ie a young girl, like your daughter....just all adds to the “could of been her” feeling.

As I say I do find human emotions, thinking and MH rather fascinating (along with death)

That's a different matter. That is where i don't think you can say something like that is irrational as knife crime is an inner city london (or other cities) thing along with gang warfare and postcode gangs and just generally kids carrying knives around which you could probably rule out from beths village.

The snatching a stranger to rape thing is much more rare and is an irrational fear because it so happened in london.

Agree though, parks at night in general i think are more dangeorous

How many times do you see neighbours giving interviews after some murder/crime and say about the murderer...”you would never have thought him/her capable of such a deed....he/she seemed so nice”.
Goes back to what I said earlier....we’ve all got it in us if the circumstances are there.
Further to that, what can make us possible of these sort of things.....upbringing ? And if that’s the case should we not feel sorrow and pity for people who commit crimes like that.
For example, Rose West was abused in the most heinous way by her family as a child, both physically and sexually...but does that give some understanding, and in some way some reasoning behind the crimes she did. Would be hard to feel sorry for her, however it’s difficult to feel that giving a decent upbringing, things might not of happened like they did.....or would it ?
