Im currently on my UEFA B course and Its a massive eye opener. To many people mainly British have the "Its only a game with a few tactics thrown in" mentality. These badges learn coaches how the body learns, how the brain can develope pathways through repetition and game related practices. If NP has his pro license and was also teaching then believe me he will know his stuff. Sorry mussies red hat but your talking out your arse on this one!
Ian Dowie has got his Uefa badge, as has Little and Molby, they worked out well, think Parkinson was well badged too..... Mussie is bang on, you can teach tons of theory and text book stuff, but ultimately its how it is used. Dont care if Pearson has a 1st class degree in football management from Cambridge (i know it doesnt exist) or learnt his trade running a pub team on Bransholme, as long as he makes the club sucsessful so be it.
I dont think mussie is completly writing off coaching awards, just the ammount of emphisis been placed on it. I know how the body "learns", I know how the body adapts, I understand performance management and the use of repitition resulting in muscle memory. However the fact I have this knowledge doesnt mean I will be a good football manager.
Im saying he will be a better coach/ manager for doing the badges than if he hadnt. I believe that a good educated coach / manager can make an average player a good player and a good player a great player.
I left univesity with an honours degree in business a long long time ago and I soon realised that in the longer term, the B.A. meant: "Bugger All". To be fair it did open a few doors early on but I have since learned that it is how you apply the theory that counts more than anything not the theory itself. Incidentally I also went on to complete a post grad diploma in my chosen Profession and I have done ok out of it since through a great deal of hard work. However, there is another massive factor which has been imperative throughout - LUCK!!!! Jeff Barmby once told me that there are three kinds of Managers - Good Managers; Bad Managers; and Lucky Managers. Guess which recent Manager he was talking about!!!
My old dear spent 7 years qualifying for her job. I'll tell her tonight that mussiesredhat says that she wasted her time and could be doing her current job through pure luck! Mind you that will probably simply confirm her thoughts on the intelligence of football fans (including me!) (ps. I also took Business Studies as a first degree and read ITC for my MSc.)

I once got a City & Guilds Radio and TV Servicing(pt 1) qualification. So if you need your radio or TV servicing then let me know(as long as it's a valve one, pre-1980).
can you mend the BBC Long Wave transmitter. I read t'other day that they have had to buy up the world supply of valves for it. Apparently its the world's last remaining valve operated transmitter and when the last one blows, bye bye Long Wave!!! True story
To be honest, I mainly just kept flicking the on/off switch until they came on. Failing that, I found kicking was quite effective with regard to fixing TV's. Seriously.
