Peterborough were well on top at the beginning
Pathetic "clearance" by Greaves resulted in their goal
Then the red card followed by a very good City performance to win without being spectacular

the only tactic at set pieces is Elder and Honeyman stand together - Elder raises his arm and then runs at the ball but stops and Honeyman then runs in and crosses it - over and over again - what is so much better is Honeyman's crossing ability - now that is really good/ excellent

What's this got to do with the match thread ? We have just beaten the team with the best home form in the country and gone top of the league three points clear and here we are debating the ****ing vaccine ? Has the world gone mad ?

It's ridiculous. Sometimes they switch but we always know that the first one who runs at the ball will stop and let the other take it.
Why take one player out of the attack for no useful reason?
The defence will always be ready to deal with an inswinger and an outswinger.

Totally agree. However It’s only City’s results that keep me from going mad when I watch the media. Football is a bloody good distraction.

    Fair point, and my apologies.

I've moved the covid related posts to the appropriate thread.

We seem to be in a strong position now. Anyone would have taken this at the start of the season. Although plenty of teams have games in hand that means you have two games a week. We now have one game a week with time to recover from small knocks and injuries. We should be fresh for each game. I hope we can push on and get promotion now. There’s a long way to go but we are in a good position. Take each game as it comes and get the three points.

It typically takes another of their players out of the mix (as they need 2 to match up). And they don't know for sure whether it's going to be an inswinger or outswinger, so adds more uncertainty for them to contend with. Plus we get the occasional bonus 'training ground' routine thrown in.
    It's fine in my view.

It doesnt take another of their players out of the mix as usually the ball is too far out to cause an immediate threat and if a short free kick is taken a defender has time to come out of the defence.
When a defence knows whether it's going to be an inswinger or an outswinger they still set up the same.
City are pretty useless at set pieces. How many times do we see a corner eventually going all the way back to our own keeper?

It’s a timing thing, they will practice set piece movements over and over in training and the moment when Elder stops will be a trigger for players in the box to move into their positions. Similar to how they orchestrate rugby union line outs.

IMO you are wrong on all counts Pete.
And it's simply not true to say we are "pretty useless at set pieces". Opinions aside, the stats say the complete opposite. Having said that, a couple of corners last night were attrocious (which isn't the norm from Elder and we aren't particularly debating corners specifically).
    But whatever.

Why not have the trigger when the kicker starts?
Then the player who stops can be in a goal scoring position instead.

All I got was a stiff arm. I was hoping it was going to spread but it didn't.

No idea why you would want a stiff neck?

I reckon we're safe for the playoffs now but automatics? We need to keep on winning and others need to start losing a few. I remember back in Championship days when we we'd be a handful of points off the top 6 people would say that was the best place to be, creeping up quietly below the radar. Now they're saying top of the league, points in the bag, best place to be.
Lets see where we are by end of March, the 4 teams beneath us have 4 games, we have 3.
