I disagree. I think the psychological damage caused by losing 9-0 is unfathomable, but certainly profound. For players, coaches, and fans. It takes a lot of mental strength to come back from that, especially when it's happened twice.
I appreciate that City's current owners mean that they have an almost limitless transfer budget, but City fans (at least the ones I know) are remarkably grounded, and they have followed City from the top, to the bottom (League One), and back again. I'll still give them loads of grief if we get anything out of this game, but the fans I know are not plastic.
I agree, compared to the team on the other side of Manchester, they are about as unplastic as they come.
Oh yes, I know plenty of Utd fans that have never been to Old Trafford but all pretend they are supporters of the year because they watch them on tv.
I only know one Citeh fan and he has been there for them since Adam was a lad. From good to bad to stratospheric. Still like to get a dig in about Man Cheaty.
When we met them at Wembley it took about an hour before I heard any of them speak English. How many needed the required number of away games to get a ticket.
Yeah, the psychological piece is true, though in all honesty I'm not sure even now it's still there. Winning a couple of games is far more of a tonic than dwelling on the big losses. It's just something that "fans" and the generic 'headline readers' will waffle on about more than anything.
We want a tonic to keep spirits high? Get a place in the FA Cup semi-final... then the heads will be up and everyone wanting a piece of it.... and the thought of a medal and a piece of silverware being one game away.
Yep. Simple question. Would I rather we get a draw or win at the Etihad or beat Bournemouth and its no contest. Points are easy to come by. We've got to go to Anfield yet!
Pep says his squad have been absolutely buzzing, in training, since the loss to Utd. Just what we needed to hear.
May be they'll all start like Jankewitz, try to Kung Fu kick our players, and get sent off within the first five minutes. We'll probably be 2-0 down by then, though...
My City friend has said he'd take a 1-0 win and the three points tonight, saving us the petrol. I've agreed with him on that, so no need to watch tonight.
