What I'll say about the tactics is this - Bruce has admitted, in his own pathetic way, that he constantly got it wrong. That changing repeatedly was a source of frustration and Isaac Hayden was clear that the players said as much. Hayden - rather than Bruce, who would rather play politics than be honest - then went on to say the players felt the formation was now right, that they felt comfortable in it and wanted to see it given time to mature. For these reasons along, more so than any influence Bruce has, the formation will NEVER change from 4-1-3-2. So let's just accept that and deal with it, for all most of us here feel that 4-2-3-1 is clearly better.

The issue with switching now is it's not a preferred formation of Jones or the players, apparently, Simply put, nobody at the club knows how to play 4-2-3-1 effectively, which means we'd too often be playing 4-5-1 and asking wide players to 'track back' - we have a severely limited coach and he can't see modern tactics. At least in this 4-1-3-2 it keeps Maximin and Wilson close and where they need to be, whilst giving Almiron the freedom to support better.

Even though I don't agree with the formation, I agree that having an identity will benefit us long term and is something that can be promoted throughout every set-up down the club. The U-23's are a ****ing mess at the moment, but that's off topic. We should be thankful the Bruce has accepted outside advice - 4-1-3-2 is Jones' preferred formation - and also admitted he's been wrong. A lot wrong. What Bruce now needs to do is allow Jones back into position and to just sit his fat kebab ass back down so the team can win ****ing football matches.

So who should play this weekend? Well, Dubs stays in nets - he's clearly a better 'keeper than Darlow. We should be selling Darlow and bringing Woodman back as No. 2 ASAP as well. Manq we miss badly at right back, he should be available. I'm ok with Lascelles and Clark. I'm glad Dummett had 90 mins, I think he's the man for relegation fight, not Lewis who is too weak.

Hayden is the DM, end of story, nobody is close to him at the club, The midfield duo ahead of him should be Shelvey and Longstaff, as Willock is the only able replacement for Almiron in the "false 9" thing we're playing. The top two, we probably need Fraser and Joelinton to start again. Joe was reasonable against West Brom, Fraser does have pace and needs games.

However, we need a plan B, desperately. If we're not winning, we should be removing the DM ideally and putting a striker up front to lead the line. It's a very, very easy switch to make during a match if you miss the focal point; there's no need to keep playing with two "split forwards" if we're chasing a game or need a goal. If we're winning, you keep playing the same way. If we're under the cosh, take off a forward and put on another CB, go 5-4-1. These are simple things to do, things we can and should do if Jones is more involved.

There's still hope, no matter how hopeless Ashley, Charnley and Bruce are. There's enough quality, just about, to survive and nick something against Villa who haven't been as good of late. We desperately need to.

I'm hoping it's one game too soon for Grealish because they're not quite the same without him.

    You mean Brighton?

I think Brighton have got it tough too, next game away at Soton I fancy them to lose, then hopefully when we play them in their next game after that.

After that they've got a tough run of Man U, Everton and Chelsea. Not much likely from their next 5.

    i said Brighton mate :bandit:

Newcastle will survive, just beat one or two teams ffs. Brighton have tough as nails games, they can't score, they play well and STILL lose.

If Newcastle can't win a game or two, ffs, when can be said? Relegation is deserved, thoroughly.

We've got to win games. I feel like we're expecting the competition to lose, but they keep winning games... I mean weve not beaten anyone of note really... Evertons our only big win... We need to actually beat a side first and foremost rather than keep just anticipating the others lose and I honestly don't see us winning with this side and this manager.. We're so bad I literally cannot believe it.

Everton and West Ham were pretty big wins, and it doesn't matter who we beat, the fact is we've got 7 wins this far, and that puts us in 16th.

Yeah we're ****, but that doesn't automatically make Burnley and Brighton good. Burnley may turn it around as their form is very up and down, but I definitely don't see Brighton getting any more than 10 points between now and the end of the season.

Giving us a ball park figure of at least 9 points to avoid relegation. I can see us picking up those in the Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Sheff U and Fulham games.

    0-0 draws get points too.

Wilson, Miggy and Maxi back in April for the run in.

Villa have got 3 goals in their past 5 games, which is even worse than us. Get the defence tight against them then look to nick a goal is about all we can do.

With Liverpools home form right now anything can happen.

I just don't think Brighton are necessarily gonna get more points than us, and that's what matters.

I don't think they have, I think they've just thought that if it goes down to the last 2 games we'll probably bottle it.

You can see it now: Match against Sheffield Utd: They're comfortably down, nothing to lose, playing for pride and to put themselves in the shop window. Us, nervous, tactically uncertain (I mean, even more than usual). Thumped 3-0

Then it does down to a well drilled Fulham who are above us and Brighton but who we could theoretically catch if we beat them 3-0. They are motivated and aggressive, while we're all over the shop and arguing among ourselves.

We are playing for a nervy 0-0 draw as that will be enough as long as Brighton don't beat Arsenal.

News filters through that Brighton have taken the lead in the 70th minute. We panic.

Scott Parker strips his suit off to reveal a Fulham top underneath. Comes on, scores a 30 yard screamer, sends us down.

    Calling it now.
