All yours BB. Coming from the Phoenician word Sphan = Rabbit. So, Hispania meant 'land of the rabbits' and this was adopted by the Romans who actually struck coins for the region with a rabbit on them. The country still has the largest number of rabbit recipes in the whole of Europe (but not the best - this distinction belongs to Hungary and Belgium !). Take it away.
