Totally agree with the General strike Beth...and again, agree that others circumstances would not facilitate any action like that. However I can honestly see industrial action taking place. People are angry and feel undervalued. There are thousands of positions left unfilled ‘cos people don’t want the work...or leave within a few years as it’s draining. Maybe that’s why we have to recruit in Australia and the Far East for our medics and nurses.

Don’t let Brexit cloud your vision.....those rich old men wouldn’t of been our allies and would have been happy to continue eating from the trough.
As I’ve said before...one enemy down.....now for the real battle.

    Where are these headlines mate?
Very difficult for anyone to have a pay rise right now, ESPECIALLY ****ING MPs. However, I can't believe many would begrudge NHS workers a hefty rise. I wouldn't.

Twitter mate.....full of it. As I said earlier, it’s not just the money, and I don’t need the rise to be “hefty”, just something that values what my colleagues and I do everyday......it’s the absolute gall of those in charge looking after themselves, their families and their mates while giving us on the frontline crumbs.....”let them eat cake”.

Sorry mate I don’t get it ? I’d say there’s a pretty broad mix on here and apart from one idiot it is often a good debate.

I say in what I wrote Col and Ellers....please read all that I wrote

It is not possible, because everyone is so scared of losing their jobs.

A rock and a hard place...and don't our leaders know and exploit it

Just to put this into perspective, last spring in particular NHS workers were run into the ground dealing with the unknown, many actually died and the fear factor as well as the shortages of everything they needed made their jobs as dire as you could imagine. 1% is an insult and claims it is all we can afford pale into insignificance when you look at the deal our 'friends' at HMRC will be getting...

You said you'd like to see a general strike.
You blamed others' fears for their jobs etc for it not being possible.
You let your complete hatred of all things Tory cloud your judgement at times Beth.

Of course NHS workers deserve better pay and MPs definitely don't.

Any kind of strike right now would be reckless in the extreme imo.

The thing is mate, I don’t feel bad or jealous about what the HMRC are getting (13% ?) as I just think that plays into the governments hands.
Already the misinformation has started.....I read someone stating that all NHS staff get a yearly increase anyway by moving up the scale so how dare we expect a pay increase twice in one year.
That facts is that’s wrong as for the first 3 years, whilst you move up the “spine points”, your pay still stays the same, increases on year 4, but than again stays the same for the next two years.....all disinformation to turn the public against us.....it’s just so wrong in my opinion.

Meanwhile companies like BA and Centrica take the public’s money in furlough while already having plans to ‘fire and rehire’.
The Uber rich have been taking the piss out of us for years Col....and we’ve just rolled over and taken it. When do we say enough is enough ?

    Not during a pandemic mate.
Again, I don't disagree with what you're saying.
It seems to me that the ruling classes are too entrenched in their power now.
I realise that's a red rag to a bull to you.

    Exactly Col...we won't have a general strike.
I would like one yes... But I would like QPR to win every match 3 nil ( with goals from Bonne and Dykes)..too..but that won't happen eithet

We don't always get what we want ( what a great lyric!!)..

I hate these Tories a lot...but I don't hate every Tory, I do not hate the ones I can understand, and those who actually work for their perceived good of our country and all who live here ( Ken Clark for example)..

This lot do not have the good of our country at their heart.

That is what I hate..plus their crass stupidity and ignorance..
Okay too many celebratory G and Ts.

So do we wait till this crisis is over and wait till all is well ? Or will something else come up that means we have to “all be in it together”, even though some seem to be more “in it” than others.

You’re last sentence did make me smile mate :)

Grade Spine Points are in most local government Pay Scales and when I worked in Southwark it was 4 points within a grade which you'd move up annually based on your performance management report. If you had an awkward manager you could be stuck for years, also, once you reached the top of your grade you were stuck unless you went for a higher grade job which often wasn't possible. That was entirely separate from the annual collective pay round which is the 1% figure this year. The two are supposed to encourage job progression but were often used as a mechanism to try and get rid of staff who 'failed' their review often on spurious grounds. A lot of my Trade Union casework was appeals against such reviews. Many people have no idea of how demoralising the system is...

Ours in the NHS have similarities, in the fact that once you reach the top after 7 years that’s your lot unless you move up a grade.....for me at my age it’s a non starter as I don’t really want to spend another 2 years of study and stress for very little pay when I’m getting to the end of my career.
However where it’s different is that you automatically go up, good performance or not.....but to be honest, anyone very poor at their job probably doesn’t last long and gets found out sooner rather than later. It’s very rare it seems.
