Of course facts matter. So surely you can see that claiming that there is 'a brainwashed cult of Boris' and that he would be defended if he ran down the street with a machine gun is detrimental to political debate and people's perception of government?

I presume Mr. Hancock and the pub landlord concerned, Alex Bourne, would have a good case to sue The Daily Mail for libel then for besmirching their reputations with such fabrications.

The military had pay freezes regularly throughout the 10s. I'd wager all the services you mention will end up around equal if you look back.

Last word on the matter. I made a ridiculous analogy to describe the way some people defend anything the Government does with the catch all " it would have been worse under Jeremy Corbyn" retort. If you think I believe Mr. Johnson would do something that ridiculous then you cannot understand irony.

I don't particularly care about the police, for the same reason I don't care about the NHS; they choose to do the job. Not only that but I think 95% of police officers are abysmal at their jobs, have a poor knowledge of the law (even poorer when it comes to applying it with respect for individuals' freedoms) and are mostly a political stooge uninterested in preventing crime. I once phoned the police because a couple of chavs were sat in a tree, taking pot shots at passers-by with a BB Gun. I'd have thought that a reasonable excuse for PC Plumpcunt to heave his fat arse out of his chair and head out for an hour, but apparently not, as not a soul turned up. I waited for two hours. Yet, the same police force can apparently spare time to ring a local man for having commented online that 'transwomen are not real women'.

As for the military, why would I care about that? If working class boys with no sense of worth want to fly thousands of miles to Baghdad and risk death in one of Blair's oil wars, that's their problem. I respect the fact that they've taken a risk, but I also know it's for financial gain rather than some patriotic duty. If anything it endangers Britons, though it now seems that's seen as a happy side-effect of such wars by our "rulers"... Falklands veterans are different as they fought to maintain the integrity of the sovereignty of British territory, likewise conscripted Second World War soldiers. I think you already know that, though.

The public sector workers that never seem to be subject to a pay freezes are the MPs (who theoretically are public servants!) who tell all other services they can't afford the rise, didn't they get a 3% rise not to mention a fund for home office equipment on top of their office expenses.

The current argument is around the pay rise due to the pandemic and they shouldn't have one because the economy is goosed, or at least some say so anyway. Yet the other 3 major services have had one, during the pandemic. Whilst all these 3 were having there pay rises last year, Hancock came out and said 'now isn't the time to discuss an NHS pay rise', I'm sure that went down well when the others were receiving there bump. So not only did they have to wait 6 to 12 months longer than the others, they've had half the pay rise of 2 and less than half of the Police one.

I'm ex military so I know how pay rises have gone for that branch of the public sector and I left on a significantly better pay than your average Nurse, several years ago as well I might add and it will take my wife a long time to get on the wage I left the military on.

I understand that the machine gun comment was an exaggeration.
The point I'm making is that there are blinkered views on both sides. Yet both sides will claim that the other one is blinkered and that only they can see the truth. I only brought Corbyn into it because, demonstrably (e.g the singing his name), there has been more of a 'cult' surrounding him than can be demonstrated with regard to Johnson. Not to say that the situation would be worse under him- there is no way of knowing that. Comparing this government with a government that was never in power is ridiculous.

More or less time than it took you to get to your final pay band and increment level?

As I've just stated, I'm ex military and I joined up in 1998 at 18 because I had always wanted to, not on a whim and I didn't join up 'expecting to go to war' and I like to think I do have a lot of 'sense' and I certainly didn't go there for 'financial gain' either, what is that all about btw? But yes, for patriotic duty because I know full well the danger posed by the likes of the Taliban and now ISIS, because as well as what they did achieve on 9/11 there was a hell of a lot more they didn't, but have also since achieved on a smaller scale as well. It's not exactly a job where you can say, actually I don't fancy going to Iraq or Afghanistan.

It'll take her a hell of a lot longer unfortunately and as I said, I left quite some time ago now.

It took me about 11 years.

Looking at the top of nurse band 5 it's 30k after 7 plus years and then they need promotion to Sister to earn more, taking another 7 plus years to get above 33k and it looks like they top out at 38k (about a Sgt's wage back then so I'm not even counting Flight Sgt or WO). That's significantly longer and I dare say, as a Sister, a hell of a lot more responsibility than a Cpl in the Military.

Depends what trade. In the Army a Corporal's a glorified tea boy, it's very different in the RAF in certain circumstances (I've already paid for my entire career and pension ;)) . 35k is roughly equivalent to a top increment Flying Officer or a three year corporal in my trade. My pay has gone up about 150-200 quid a month over 15 years, it would be interesting to see the figures for the fire, police and nursing services over the same period. Remember we only get anywhere near them in the first place because of the gigantic hike we got after Gulf War 1.

That is Serco track n trace in my eyes and the cost has just jumped to £37 billion. And they still couldnt find somebody with a passport who flew in from Brazil via Zurich on a specific day.

Erm, it was me that posted it. Followed up with 1% isn't enough but there's some truth in what it says.

Read the posts properly before posting because it takes a minute to pull apart.

In an ideal world yes, but I don’t think they will ever be allowed that sway again. The unions messed up Britain enormously in the 60s and 70s calling on strike action willy nilly all over the place, quickened automation no end so they could get rid of unreliable workforce’s and replace them with machines.

Also the work force has too much to lose these days most families spend to the limit and the loss of a wage isn’t doable anymore, not for any real meaningful length of time at least. That can be seen with these weak three day strikes spread over three months. Never really achieves what they want to achieve.
