No mate I'm in an extremely busy HMP YOI, the busiest and probably the most brutal in the south. We have a 60% foreign national rate with the vast majority being African or Jamaican. Basically all the young scallys from London end up here. Crimes from ABH to Murder, therefore at times it's a pretty mental environment. Because I'm not an officer I don't have any problems with the prisoners, infact I get on with most of them. The target thing is absolute bullshit and so corrupt, it's all about numbers not about the prisoners. In terms of re-offending figures to make sure our programmes are seen as successful the lifers get first option to attend the courses as they wont be getting out anytime soon, therefore wont re-offend in the following year, so the figures seem great. But realistically the people who come in for a year or so and don't get on the programmes always come back, but the figures don't count towards my targets..It's pretty ****ed up to be honest. Often we get the same faces back a month (or sooner) after they are released, yet they still don't get on any of my courses..
I guess it's no wonder you're a tad weird. I think I'd end up sectioned if I worked in that sort of environment. By the way, I think you've provided a little too much information there, boss...........
I'd be an advocate on reclaiming an island far enough off the coast with a concentration style camp on, an leave all the ****ers on there to kill each other..
I am more of a mind set of rehabilitation. But the facilities they have will never mean they are able to rehabilitate. They have TV's PS2's XBOX's etc etc.. mobile phones (although not allowed) they make their own hooch and drugs are rife. For many of them it is a better life than they lead on the out.. Big changes are needed, but will never happen now. Human rights have taken things well over board.
I dont believe in rehabilitation... once a **** always a ****... though clearly petty criminals may be able to be rehabilitated, the ones who are just theives as if they can be made to work to earn a living then maybe.. or they start losing limbs everytime they reoffend.. simple... I also dont understand why the government in times of cutbacks doesnt utilise the prison population in chain gangs... fixing the railway lines of tarmacing roads.. an such like... proper hard graft might do the spineless ****ers some good... and provides a free work force for the government saving the taxpayers money..
I mean no wardens... just huts to live in... air lift in stuff to get them growing food etc... will either mean they have to learn to live properly or they all kill each other...
