It's not like it stops West Ham from using the Stadium. They just can't buy it. They'll rent it instead. Hardly a victory for Spurs or the Orient in this matter.

This may be bad news for Spurs. With such a peppercorn rent West Ham will still
play in the stadium with very little outlay and onward running costs. This means
they will have far money to invest year to year on their squad.

This will actually prove less costly for WHU and hence a better deal for them. However the rent is another matter. Surely the best for OPLC is to charge a very high rent for the stadium? It's not like WHU are not getting a good deal anyway and everyone knows they are desperate for it (ooh er missus). If they get a free stadium AND a low rent then surely that should be a reason for the other Championship clubs to query the deal as it effectively gives WHU an unfair advantage. But considering how inept the OPLC have been so far, I can't imagine they will let the stadium go for anything like a commercial rate, so fixated as they are at having an athletics track in that exact location, even if its surrounded by a half empty stadium for athletics events (for footie too probably!) And I know we all realise this, but have you seen the pics taken from the stands... how far away is the pitch!!!!

  11. What a bunch of gypsies!

They'll be moving their caravans onto the land and paying no rent!

They won't really have more money though because no-one will want to pay for tickets (especially full price) because with them renting the stadium there is absolutely no chance of them ever being able to remove the track.
It was on the news this morning and i just burst out laughing for no apparent reason. The gf thought i'd lost it and asked what i was laughing about. My reply: "look how far away the seats are from the pitch!".

Once west ham are in and they've sold/demolished the boleyn then the oplc basically have them by the balls. They can up the rent knowing they've got nowhere else to go.

BUT! from a Spurs point of view this effectively negates any chance of us getting this stadium and neutralizes our appeals. At the same time reducing our clout in negotiations with Boris on Spurs staying in Tottenham. At a stroke Levys position has been weakened.

surely they'd have to reimburse Spurs their costs of bidding? Wasn't that like £35m? We've effectively paid that money hoping to get something that is no longer available.

I wonder! nobody was forced to bid, but if there is anything to be salvaged from this, Levy is the man to find it.

If ever a username fitted so well.

That contentious 40 million "loan" with interest could now have turned into a gift from the OPLC.

2 million rent on a place that requires 5 million to keep it going every year sounds like a result if true. It just depends how much the David's and Newham believed all the other sports and activities/concerts were actually worth to them?

Also we don't have to commit for 150 years if we "rent" the OS, we have no need to sell UP to raise money, perhaps we could let Orient use it while we "try out" the new stadium, see if we like it?

we weren't forced to bid, but as i understand we were actively encouraged.

At least if we got that money back we'd still be better off than getting the £17m bribe from Bojo. Plus we will have guarenteed the running track remains for West Ham. Plus, with all Bojo's public announcements on funding for the Tottenham area (and because of the riots) he'd be hard pressed to go back on that too regardless of us continuing the court case.

Thats sort of a win, i think.
