He has 104 entries I think, but quite a few of those are multiples made for the early closing races.

Be interesting to see what the owners do next, the problem is they’re now banking on a) IHRB pulling together a hearing and decision within a week or so and b) finding him clear of all charges.

As I posted on the Daily Thread, the entry level penalty for bringing racing into disrepute in GB is £2,000 fine and/or 3 month suspension so I imagine the Irish penalties are similar. They can’t let him off with a slap on the wrist over this one.

Ball is with the owners now - cross your fingers that IHRB act quick and find him not at fault or move your horses to a new trainer now.

You’d hope so but honestly most racing professionals in Ireland seem to think they’re a joke.

given he’s admitted that it wasn’t fake, surely whatever happens they have to ban him?

Good to see the BHA announcement. The sport does not need people like that.

I suspect by the end of this week he will be looking at a lot of empty stables.

Not at fault of what exactly? Hes already admitted the photo is real. If the IHRB give him a slap on the wrist do you think that will be enough for the BHA to lift the ban?

Lee Mottershead’s column tonight, it’s behind the paywall but I’ve taken screenshots.

Under the Integrity section of the BHA Rules of Racing, there is a rule which states "A Person must not engage in conduct which the BHA considers is prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct or good reputation of horseracing in Great Britain."

I would have thought IHRB have a similar rule. Penalties for breaching the BHA rule range from £1,000-£15,000 fine and/or 3 months to 3 years suspension.

If I owned a horse in his yard, I'd be on my way to pick it up now.

He'll get a little bit of a fine, maybe a little bit of a ban and that will be that. He should do the honourable thing and remove himself from the sport.

    Yes but you said in a previous comment ;

Ball is with the owners now - cross your fingers that IHRB act quick and find him not at fault or move your horses to a new trainer now.

How could the owners cross their fingers and hope the IHRB find him not at fault when hes admitted guilt?

If they only fined him for example.

I phrased it badly, I should have said “opting for a lesser punishment” rather than “find him not at fault”. As Nass says, the option is available to IHRB (if the Irish penalty structure resembles BHA’s) to only give him a fine.

As I see it, the initial statement was him. Subsequent statements/interviews following media outrage is more than likely advised to limit punishment

Will the BHA accept him getting just a fine by the IHRB? Personally think they wont and expect them to keep the ban intact for 3 months.

I am not a particular fan of Elliott in the sense you like some trainers and jockeys more than others for not much reason. However, a life ban is too much, a severe ban and a fine should be the punishment imo.
Then again in athletics i would ban drug cheats for life, so its a tough call.
Have any trainers or jockeys recieved life bans in the past?
