You might be a bit of an old fossil mate, but some of these old school ideas like keeping butter in dish at room temp are just basic life skills. <ok>

It why generations like mine listen and respect our ancestors ways and pass them down to our own children.

Bit of a tip here, if you have left your butter in the fridge and need to use it straight away, use a potato peeler to cut yourself some nice slices that will soften quickly and be able to spread.

Still only works on toast mind, or frozen bread, it wouldn't spread on soft bread.

    Cba posting pics though.

Of course you do, until you use it.

Then it goes in the butter dish.

You don't buy one pack of butter when you go shopping, surely? We buy at least two, one straight in the butter dish and the other goes in the fridge until it's its turn.

I buy two and keep them in the cupboard. That way you don’t need to start chipping bits of solid butter off.

Only spread I use is olive spread. Probably due to me not liking cheese. Not saying I wouldn't eat butter if that is all that was on offer but I wouldn't buy it. Also olive spread keeps in the fridge and is easily spreadable straight from it. Always a spare one in the freezer compartment, generally get it out 24 hours before it's required (if frozen). As a kid, my parents would always buy margarine, probably something like Stork in them days. As a kid and as an adult, everyone would just eat whatever was available in the house. Thankfully don't have to fook about buying butter for one half of the family and olive spread for the other half. Any pastry bought is always the ready made stuff, so don't even need butter for that.
