They don't. Most of the design is done by women. If you don't believe me look it up. 15 years ago the US decided that American cars should pander too the female population, as these were the customer's that were driving the sales. Hence big 4 wheel drive Chelsea tractors, high driving position, damage limitation, don't care about you, mine is bigger, Wanna be male types.
That is why the car industry in Detroit is ****ed. Back in the 60s and 70s they created mostly massive engined, gas guzzling muscle cars.
