I do take on board the points made here, I guess at Arsenal he is exactly the type of player that we've lacked. We've got plenty of technically gifted players who can dribble, pass and make the game look silky and sublime, but for years we've just needed someone who can goal hang and stick the ball in the net. But I agree, the type of football Spurs play these days, Bent would look like a lumbering sack of spuds in your team.
You'd be sick of him in a week, Piskie. I remember his pathetic attempts to put a bit of drive into his play after he was paired with Keane and the Irishman focused his pointy, shouty powers on him. He made half-arsed attempts to challenge for headers and did a bit of tracking back and closing down for a while. He looked most put out while he was doing it, too.
Ivan Kaviedes was always prolific playing in Ecuador, but when playing for any European club - from Perugia to celta Vigo to Porto to Crystal Palace - he mustered the grand total of ten goals. That's merely one tenth of the goals he's scored in the Ecuadorina leagues and, therefore, proving a prolific goalscorer can be useless to a team.
Bent could be guaranteed to score us a goal in a 2-1 defeat, time and time again. Great for Bent's goal-tally, but not so good for staying clear of relegation worries.
That wouldn't be difficult! Sorry, I don't rate Bent - never have. He may be having a purple patch at the moment, but it won't last.
He's a twat with an annoying run you know the fists close together one?? **** him hes infested with Sunderland fanny diseases.
Players like Bent always seem to be able to raise their game when they feel that they have a point to prove. That's what really annoys me about Bent. The lad has undoubted talent, but we've only seen the best of it at Sunderland (and flashes at Villa), because he is driven by a desire to prove that Harry and Levy were wrong to get rid of him. He doesn't seem to be able to produce good form unless he is stung into doing it. Some players are just like that, I suppose. I'm hoping that Adebayor doesn't turn out to be cut from the same mould.
The real issue with Darren Bent is that you have to build a side to get the ball to him, which is fine for middling clubs like Villa, Sunderland or Charlton as they needed his goals to keep their heads above water, but the moment that you start to build a team - as we were during his time at the club - he becomes less useful because he doesn't contribute to the team in any way. There are times where having a player who does nothing but stick the ball in the net can be useful to a team, but in those cases they have to be an exceptional goalscorer who can be relied on to bury the one chance that comes their way in the match (such as Klinsmann, Van Basten, Lineker, Batistuta or Van Nistelrooy) - but Darren Bent is not an exceptional goalscorer.
He does at the moment, simply because he's been playing regularly; whilst Ade has languished on the bench at both City & Real.
