Rather than move the FA Cup Final, it probably be allowed to be used as a test event.

I did wonder that at first. But it seems too late in the day - just two days before the rules come in - to have a test event.

But the SFs are a different matter. Test/pilot events can happen as from 12 April, and the SFs are scheduled for the weekend of 17 and 18.

Likewise the LC final the following weekend, on Sunday 25.

Of course whether they get picked, who knows.

I posted about a Sheffield United player the other day, Alan Woodward. I was looking for a bit of footage of an incident (that I didn't find) but this popped up. It's very much my memory of how many free kicks were taken at one time, just a hammer blow of a kick in a straight line into the goal. I understand that the curling JWP style wasn't really possible with the footballs of the time but you could still just hammer the bugger if you chose. Is there anyone who still does this? If not, why not? Where, when and why did it go out of favour?

Anyone worried about the Bournemouth game just needs to watch their game tonight against Cardiff. They're absolutely terrible. Just a matter of how many we win by.

Shocking red card in the Atalanta Real Madrid game.

Disagree. If you pause it when the foul took place he would have had a free shot on goal. Defender on the far side wouldn't have got across in time.

Real Madrid are a horrible team at the moment but it would not surprise me to see them and Liverpool in the final for the biggest bore fest imaginable. How often do teams that are playing absolute tripe get to a big final? Liverpool are masters in this aspect through the years, 1981, 2005 and 2007. Madrid likewise.

There's a fairly meagre wall there; in the modern era, even from that range you'd have more players in it, and wouldn't be able to hit straight around the wall and on target.

Technically, I'd imagine that would also be difficult to achieve these days, because the weight of the old balls would make it a little easier to keep such a shot down. Today even the least bit of backspin and it's going to be in near earth orbit by the time it crosses the goal line.

That would be great, apart from your peferred outcome. Having said that, it is usually teams with enormous pedigree that reach the final - Real, Liverpool, Bayern, Barcelona (not this year). Followed by Juve, Porto and Borussia Dortmund. I nearly forgot Chelsea. One from that list will get there, the other maybe PSG or City but I doubt both will.
