Apparently a tribute to his mum that recently passed away "Much strength for the Assis Moreira Family. Rest in Peace Dona Miguelina"
We had a great Scottish contingent in those days....he was a bargain for the amount we paid, and like all footballer's even back then they say one thing and do the opposite....he said when he signed for scum 99% of players would love to play for man utd the other 1% are liars and this was only a few weeks after saying he would like to stop at Leeds for his entire career....still he won the league with us and only the f a cup with scum so we win!
Think shakleton will be one of those leaving. He has had his chance but is destined for lower leagues.
Terrible news about Gordan McQueen and I'm sure we all wish him and his family well. Just on a footballing level though when Gordan and Joe Jordan left in the mid 70's it ripped the immediate future out of our club. Ultimately that led to relegation and 8 years in the wilderness before Wilko brought us back. No ill feeling on my part, but you do wonder how different things could have been if those 2 had stayed.
well for me the turning point was when Alioski came on as sub, we were playing ok before but upped the game when he came on i know a lot don't recon him, but the game speaks for itself the pressure with hi in was more intense and led to goals. And then we have Meslier what a keeper ,for such a young lad if he is not world class now he will be in a few months, so i hope when his contract talks come up you go all out to keep him, Raphine is also a phenomenal player anyone who can sprint like that at the end of a match is someone special
unusual for a footballer’s mum to be your hero, maybe she had great cruyff turn? Nice touch from the lad regardless.
Just read this on Klich... A 68% pass accuracy left a lot to be desired, while losing five out of six duels – 84% per SofaScore – highlighted how poor he was. He did not play much better against Wolves as he conceded possession 14 times and was dribbled past twice (SofaScore).
I think Costa made a bigger impact than Harrison had when he came on. For some reason he seemed to have more space and was very direct which caused Southampton to be a bit more cautious. I think Costa may get the nod for the next game, what a turnaround. Maybe Klich has been playing through the pain until Rodrigo gets fit. I thought Meslier was excellent again, he came for important crosses and made a world class save. Some of us should remember this when he makes the very rate mistake. I thought once Llorente settled down he was assured but I don't get the problem with Cooper. I think he's been excellent lately including a fantastic block last night. He does get beaten sometimes but every CB does against top class strikers and wingers. I feel that there is a rush to get rid of one of our most consistent players, as well as our Captain. I thought it was a great win because it could very easily have gone the other way. Southampton weren't bad. Just how far Bamford has come, he finished his chance clinically and forced a great save from their keeper. Ings started on the bench and didn't do much when he came on and Adams didn't impress me either. I'll stick with Paddy
yeh I think Coops has been good recently... nearly made a costly f up yesterday re letting the ball run out, but made amends for it. Meslier has been great since the Arsenal game... good show of character from the lad. I think costa may have got more space in the second half because we scored early and they were chasing the game... our threat was on the break and his direct pacy style is maybe more suited to that.
It was conceding the silly free kick early on that annoys me about Cooper, he does it far too often. We could and should have been 1-0 or even 2-0 down after 10 minutes. The defender did a Struijk and headed it wide when it should have been a certain goal. I agree though after the first 30 minutes or so he put in some excellent blocks and tackles. I know defenders will give free kicks away I’ve no problem with that, it’s the needless ones around the edge of the area that gripe me
I agree entirely I wasn't dissing Gordon, just stating what was said at the time, and these days players are even more inclined to do one. You can never say whether if they had stopped things would have been different, but they where to fearsome competitors and very good players...same can be said of ****ina he unfortunately did the business....wish he'd had stayed
A bit late as I only watched it late last night. Meslier - 8. Couple of nervy moments with the ball at his feet that he got away with but made some fine saves and dealt with crosses all night. He's not slow coming off his line either. Cooper - 9. Fantastic game. Crunching tackles, read the game well, didn't panic when Southampton pressed us. Best game this season. Struijk - 6. Struggled to beat the press. Held firm. Let his man go for a free header early doors. Llorente - 6. Gave the ball away alot first half. Looked a bit lost at times and visibly tired. However, he tried the balls to beat the press and his influence grew as the game went on. His pass to Roberts for the Bamford goal is hopefully a sign of things to come. Should have scored too. Ayling - 5. That's a couple of games where he has been below par with the ball. He wasn't alone with his struggle. Dallas - 6. Struggled until moved central where he turned it around for us. Contrary to popular belief, his finish was exceptional. Ronaldinho scored a similar one at Chelsea a few years ago and it is still shown today. Dallas was summed up as 'prodded at it'. Klich - 4. Was arguably our best player for the first 10 games. Probably been our worst since. Can't fault his effort levels but he needs to fix whatever is wrong and quickly if he wants to stay in the team. Roberts - 6. Did OK. Got an assist. Was aggressive in the tackle. I like the fact that he runs at the defence and makes them make decisions. He needs to stop drifting in and out of games and be quicker at making decisions himself. Should have at least hit the target with a couple of efforts. Harrison - 3. On a poor run of form. That happens to wingers. Might need to switch it up and start Costa who is playing himself back in to form. It's just not happening for Jack at the moment despite his excellent workrate. Raphinha - 8. If you watched the game from 30 minutes on then Rapha would get full marks but the first 30 minutes he was detrimental to the teams efforts. Gave the ball away in his own half multiple times and on another day would have cost us a couple of goals. Saying that, the last hour was a master class in workrate, quality and mindset. He certainly has the X factor. Bamford - 8. Did his job and scored the goal. Needs to work on his first touch as he couldn't hold the ball up when we needed to release the pressure early doors. Workrate was exceptional as usual and cleared one off the line at 1-0 so involved in key moments in the game. Subs. Costa - 7. Might be playing himself in to the starting line up. Had a positive impact again and got an assist. Might have scored from a Raphinha pull back too. Looked a real handful. Alioski - 5. Allowed Dallas to move central but he gave the ball away a few times and Raphinha was visibly frustrated when Alioski just ran straight at him with the ball. Hernandez - 5. I think we needed an old head to come on a settle us down but Pablo didn't really have an impact. Might have scored late on or kept the ball moving.
Was going to do player ratings but I think Emu hit the nail on the head. Would probably score Dallas higher as he's so consistent and important to our team. 5 goals this season now which is amazing for someone who has been playing in defence for quite a few games. Also, Harrison has been poor and losing possession for the last few games now so I could see Costa playing his way back into the team. We want this sort of competition for places and it should only get stronger next season.
Morning all. Totally agree about Meslier at the age of 20 he is showing all the qualities needed to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
