I don't hate ManYou. I think ManUre is just an affectionate bantery dig. Like Chelski.

And I don't think ManYou started the inflated transfer fees. I think that started when we all 'had' to keep up with AC Milan, Lazio and Real 2 decades or so ago or even further back (thinking Blackburn, Newcastle etc.

TBH ManYou the team is probs the team I like to watch most because of the way they play. They don't need pundits to tell people they play good football because they do the talking o nthe pitch. They DO play wicked attacking fast paced football unlike Chelsea who apart from their goals bore you off the park.

The only hatred people have for ManYou are the bandwagon fans much as we hate the Chelsea, Arsenal and 20 odd years ago Blackburn and Newcastle bandwagon fans. Those who support the success rather than the actual club and what that club means. The ones that would become much as we are about England at the moment and say we aren't interested because we aren't playing very well. Those fans are very quick to rave on about how good 'their team' is and belittle how someone can support Saints or Lincoln City or any unsuccesful club without actually understanding what it means to properly 'support' a team.

I don't mean that a true supporter has to attend every match. maybe not any matches. circumstances and responsibilities can often rule out that possibility. But to me a true support is involved emotionally. when things are good, when they are bad. They have true passion about the club, not just a hunger for success and the credo that succes gives. They have the club in their heart not just just the shirt they like to brandish in the pub whilst telling others how crap their team are.

Soooooo. we don't hate ManYou. ManUre is just banter. We just hate the plonker that likes to be one of the crowd and does not understand true emotional ties with a club.

I can see why these kind of fans do irritate people. They irritate me for a start, and they cause some people to tar all Man United fans with the same brush, which is a shame. A great many United fans - not just those from Manchester BTW - are knowledgeable and humble, not the arrogant ****ers we're made about to be. What always amuses me is when you get the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea fans calling us "gloryhunters", despite the fact that many of their own fans are guilty of the same thing. Especially Liverpool, their fanbase spreads right the way around the world, just that their gloryhunters tend to be a bit older!

Indeed very true. Arsenal fans are almost as old however they seem to be les 'emotionally connected with their team as I see lots of Liverpool shirts still but rarely se Arsenal shirts anymore (up here in Lincoln anyway)

So I disappear for a day and return to find my throwaway comment of 'Manure' has spawned a feisty argument over cross-team hatred?

    My bad.

I don't hate United, I'll support them in the Champion's League against non-English teams and the Skates.

If I had to put my finger on a reason for some slight angst from our fans then it would porbably be the annoying amount of plastic United fans we have to put up with in pubs in Southampton that will just as quickly swap their Man United shirt for a Saints shirt when we head to Wembley. There's also the incidents in 2009 that Jen mentioned earlier and of course the comments from Roy Keane after you sent us down on the final day of the season.

But yeah, 'Manure' was meant in the same way as 'Chelski', 'Spuds, and 'Sheikh City' etc. and wasn't actually due to any supposed hatred.

Don't hate ManU per se, but dislike the plastic fan. After we were relegated, I had to put up with rubbish from ManU fans who'd never been to Old Trafford. I always support ManU (and other UK teams) in Europe.

I now live in Swansea and the same thing happened, I was genuinely amazed by the people I knew to be Liverpool, Spurs, United and even Blackburn fans suddenly becoming Swansea City's biggest supporters. It's not just United who have pretend fans. Dickheads the lot of them, they don't know which way to turn and who to 'support' now the Swans are in the premier league. They'll also no doubt ditch Swansea as soon as they get relegated. (not for another decade or so hopefully)

Anyway, the manure thing is just boring, unoriginal and childish.

    Watch this. Comedy gold:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15255734.stm

Claridge tries to make a point about the Lithuania vs. Czech Republic game, but refers to the teams as Liechtenstein and Czechoslovakia. Last time I checked, Czechoslovakia doesn't exist (and hasn't for about 20 years). I was quite interested to hear his views on the Yugoslavia and Soviet Union games, but they weren't forthcoming unfortunately.

Also look at Motson's facial expression at about 0:44 - seems to say "here we bloody go..."

Souness, he has no knowledge of teams and seems like he knows nothing other than the top 4. He's a fool. I'm not keen on Mark Lawrenson either but he has a far superior knowledge of the game and teams, it's a shame when he spouts his nonsense views and 'witty' remarks.
