Would have preferred Pearson to stay. I see Callum Robinson struggled this afternoon but out of position. He is better coming in from the left.

Preston North End have signed Scottish centre half Liam Lindsay on loan from Championship rivals Stoke City.

The Paisley-born defender has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Partick Thistle, where manager Alex Neil first came across his new recruit, before a successful spell at Barnsley, gaining promotion to the Championship in 2018/19.

He joined the Potters from Oakwell in June 2019, for a publicised fee of over £2m and has made 23 appearances at the Bet365 Stadium.

Speaking about the move, the Scot saw the chance to play regularly something he couldn’t turn down: “It’s been pretty quick and I’m just happy to have it done and dusted and I’m looking forward to it.

“It is obviously a big attraction coming here and the gaffer wanted me here, which gives me confidence, so I’m just looking to get as many games as possible and help the team.”

Manager Alex Neil added: “It is good to get this bit of business done. The Ben Davies interest came out of the blue so it’s not something we expected, but he have obviously been keeping an eye on left sided centre backs in case that did happen.

“Liam is a guy who has played at the level, he’s been at Stoke, he’s been at Barnsley, he’s a good age, he’s left-sided and left footed and I think it makes sense to bring someone in who can hopefully do well between now and the end of the season.

“He’s a good presence, a good size, and we are really hopeful for him. He hasn’t played a lot of football this year and we want to make sure that he gets his season up and running.”

Preston North End have completed the season-long loan of Liverpool’s Dutch centre half Sepp Van Den Berg.

The 20-year-old started his career in his homeland with PEC Zwolle, making 23 appearances, after coming through the ranks – his debut coming in 2018.

He was signed by the current champions of England in the summer of 2019 and has made four appearances for the Reds in domestic cup competitions in the last two seasons.

The Netherlands youth international has been given the No.2 shirt at Deepdale and completed his move to the club on deadline day.

Speaking after putting pen to paper he said: "I’m looking forward to it. I’m happy I’m here. I’m happy hopefully I can play a lot of games, I hopefully can achieve something good this season so I’m really looking forward to the season.

"I’ve had a look around and everything looks good. The people that I’ve met have been really nice to me so I’m really looking forward and the facilities are good so hopefully I can develop here very well."

Preston North End grabbed a deadline beating signing, by capturing highly-sought after Everton attacker Anthony Gordon until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old joined the Toffeemen as a youngster, progressing through their Academy ranks coming on for his debut 12 months ago against West Ham United, as a substitute for Bernard.

He went on to be handed his first Premier League start in the Merseryside derby against Liverpool at Goodison Park in June and he has followed that with ten appearances this season already.

The Lilywhites, who beat a host of clubs to his signature, finally got the deal overline just before the 11pm deadline, with Anthony taking the No.42 shirt for the remainder of the season.

Speaking after putting pen to paper the England U20 international said: “I’m, so excited. Preston is a massive club; I’m delighted to be here. I know it was last minute, but I can’t wait to get going.

“I’ve heard a lot about the club. I’ve been told all about the family feel of this club and that was a massive part of why I chose to come here. I think that’s my main reason for being here, I really want to start games and be involved in men’s football consistently.

“I think this is the perfect place for me at this moment with this manager, this team, and hopefully we can get to the play-offs.”

Whilst manager Alex Neil said he always expected it to be a late one, but was excited to have got his eighth signing of a busy window.

He added: “I think we always knew this was going to be a late deal. We spoke to Everton regarding Anthony and I spoke to Anthony himself as well.

“We needed to make sure we brought another attacking option in and I think Anthony, who has been involved in most of Everton’s games this season, has huge potential and he is different to the other type of lads we have as well.

“Anthony wants to take the ball, he wants to get at people, he wants to try and take them on and be creative in the final third. That type of player is what we have needed.”

Preston North End have agreed the sale of defender Ben Davies to Premier League champions Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old joined the Lilywhites Academy at the age of ten and came through the ranks and given his debut by Graham Westley in January 2013.

Successful loan spells, in particular with York City and Fleetwood Town, aided the development of the left-side central defender, however, after the arrival of Alex Neil as manager, he became a first team regular.

He has gone on to make 144 appearance for the club, including 19 this current season, and scored two goals in that time.

Speaking about his departing No.6 manager Alex Neil was proud to see one of his stalwarts moving to a club of the size and esteem of the Reds, he said: "It was an opportunity that he certainly couldn’t knock back and we certainly couldn’t stand in his way.

"We’ve said that all along about our young players, if an opportunity comes up for them to go to the Premier League, and certainly a team like Liverpool, I think it’s an incredible opportunity for Ben.

"To be honest he deserves it, he’s worked extremely hard on his game and he’s been a terrific servant for us.

"He came through the youth academy here as well, so to produce one of our own and for them to go on to a team like Liverpool, it’s an incredible achievement for the club and for Ben himself. I really hope he goes on and gets an opportunity because I really think he could do well. I think he’s got the potential and the attributes in terms of his pace and his comfort on the ball to be a really top player so I will certainly follow him with interest."

The Barrow-born man completed a medical and the paperwork at Anfield on transfer deadline day and joins one of the World’s biggest clubs with everyone at Preston North End’s best wishes and thanks for everything he has given over 15 years in lilywhite.

Defender Josh Earl has joined Burton Albion on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

Earl, who has made seven appearances for North End this season, heads to the Pirelli Stadium to gain further experience of first team football.

The Brewers recently reappointed Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who has added the 22-year-old to his defensive ranks.

Last season the PNE No.3 had loan spells at Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town, and this is a further opportunity to get valuable game time.

Everyone at Preston North End wishes Josh the best of luck during his loan spell.

Striker David Nugent has joined League Two Tranmere Rovers on loan for the remainder of the season.

The striker, who returned to Deepdale in the summer of 2019, has agreed a move to Prenton Park for the rest of the campaign.

Keith Hill’s men are aiming to a first time return to League One and currently sit in a Play-Off position, having won their last four league games in a row.

The former Leicester City attacker will add to the fire power of the Super Whites, as they look to push for a promotion spot.

Everyone at Preston North End wishes David the best of luck during his loan spell.

Preston North End striker Ched Evans has signed a new contract until the summer of 2023.

The Lilywhites brought in the former Sheffield United forward from Fleetwood Town in January, initially signing on loan, before completing a permanent deal until the summer.

However, he has now put pen to paper on a new contract until the end of the 2022/23 campaign, having scored three goals in 15 games, including the goal of the season contender at Millwall last month.

Speaking after completing the necessary paperwork, the 32-year-old said: “I came here to make an impact and I feel like I have done that and I am really pleased with how it has gone – although more wins on the board would have been nicer.

“After the last two games, spirits are good, the atmosphere is high and I am over the moon.

“As a professional footballer I feel like I am at a really good stage. I spoke to Frank [McAvoy] about getting more in the centre of the box to score more goals.

“Over the last couple of games, we have created a lot more opportunities and I need to get into the right positions for these, but I am really pleased with my all-round performances, in training and games.

“The facilities are unbelievable here and I am happy and I hope to score more goals and create more chances.”

Interim head coach Frankie McAvoy added: “He has earned it for what he has done since he has been here. He has been a breath of fresh air, is an experienced player and since he came in he has been absolutely brilliant.

“Hard work and effort deserves to be rewarded in my eyes and anyone who has seen what Ched has provided and produced since he arrived, will think it is deserved. I am absolutely delighted for him and it is great news for Preston North End.

“We have a lot of young players in the dressing room and for the younger front players he is someone they can learn about the game from. He has had a good career in the game and credit to him.”
