People seem to be reading far too much into the interview, hes obviously just had a call for a interview off sky about the takeover and didnt know much about KLD. He is a club legend always will be, met him once and he spoke very passionately about Safc
He certainly knew how to find the net, he was a natural finisher, my point is that Quinn was such a good foil for him by providing the goalscoring chances. But I do agree he was a hell of a finisher for us.
My mate Mr Tonna lives there. He's a billionaire we worked for at a place called Ffynone Mansion in Wales. He sold up and wanted us to go to work in Lugano but we thought the flights home would be a fuss. I really regret not going now tbh, if I'd known you were there it would've tipped the balance.
Sounded to me like he's up Donald's arse tbh. I didn't want the background on KLD or whatever ... ... the slightest bit of enthusiasm would've been nice though.
Will have nowt said against SKP. Take yourself back 20+ years and just remember how that team made you feel, he was the main man of that. Perhaps for me its the misty-eyed memories of my childhood hero but as time passes with us languishing well below where we 'should' be, you take a moment to remember the time where we had the winner of the European Golden Boot playing for our club. One of my favourite nights has to be the Bury match, 5-2 and we got promoted. SKP got four of them including a first half hat trick with lads fans in three sides of the ground. About a week later it was Barnsley, 2-1 until added time where Kev picked the ball up on the left wing, cut inside and bent and unstoppable shot around the keeper and in to the far corner. Champions. Thats what I loved most about the man in those first three seasons in particular, not IF he'd score, but WHEN. I fail to see how anyone could look back on that with anything other than fond memories.
I always think SKP is a bit dour in interviews - it may be his persona. He also if he has any allegiance to us has seen a number of false dawns and may be cautious. His contribution on the pitch (as for Marco) will never be forgotten by me (especially ironically Marco). I never get worked up about interviews as you never really know the context of how someone feels - especially in lockdown. He may just have got out the wrong side of the bed. Plenty of poster on our respective Forums share similar traits. Anyway why linger on this - there's a match, new owners and let's hope a new beginning. I am an optimist (manged to smile through cancer) but I can still see why someone would say "is a 23 year old the experience we need". I think it could be a breath of fresh air to a club that was looking severely oxygen starved.
Phillips has played for too many clubs, I remember him giving a tearful interview about West Brom and 'two of the best years of my career' ... ... you could see Jim White start to fidget and think WTF, I doubt he'll be invited back. I've seen happier people at wakes tbh.
"I fail to see how anyone could look back on that with anything other than fond memories." This isn't about his time here, it's about his interview.
I'm not really bothered what hes said about it to be honest. Has zero affect on the club at all, what he did on the pitch did though.
Not saying it did mate, just thought he was poor in his words and attitude ... ... I'm judging him as an interviewee, not as a player. It's not a big deal but, no matter what, he came across as dismissive of an owner he obviously knows nothing about except his age.
Just had a random thought, thinking about Bob Murray. Believe he wasn't welcome when Short was in charge. Imagine if Short had installed him as CEO/Chairman. Might have worked out very well.
Sorry - didn’t get round to answering your question. Anyway to reward loyalty in my book is a good idea and if that means we get better and more frequent communications with SAFC the better. WRT a third kit if we got the Rowell one which never changed then I think that would be a good way to support parents with low incomes who want their kids to be part of the club. I’d also like the old Le Coq Sportif home kit to be a 4th strip too as I’m greedy.
I'm only asking because I was lucky enough to be shown a list of suggestions made, by an adviser, to FPP. One of them was for a new 'third' shirt and new badge with a loyalty chip, updates, ticket news, etc. I've noticed a few similarities already, with KLD's actions, and wonder if they were given the files, why not. As an example, FPP wanted to employ local people at all levels and that seems to be happening. All very interesting although he hasn't mentioned a monorail yet
Most of our former players are like that, only turn up at the SOL if they are being paid to. I think half the problem with ex-players who are regarded as club legends is that they don't want to appear too over the top in the way they portray themselves towards their former clubs in interviews. I think Phillips has missed the mark with this interview but feel he was trying to give a balanced interview with something to appease the massively excited fans (he did use the phrase "its an exciting time" or similar) with some reality checks regarding fan expectations with maybe a small message for the new owner regarding expectations and meeting them being two different things. I agree he did come across as negative to some extent but think hes always struggled to show feelings in most of the interviews I have seen over the years. Hes not exactly an extrovert in the way he speaks. When Quinny was commentating/summarising for Sky he used to piss me off no end with his on the fence/negative stance towards Sunderland and his overbearing insistence he not be seen to be favouring us in his comments. He couldn't be himself and had to hide his partisan nature towards us it seemed. I wont hold it against him though - he is certainly a Legend much more than Phillips would ever be.
Phillips is a legend, always will be, best player i have seen in a safc shirt in my time supporting them
Loyatiy or any givieees that me out Never had a thing off Safc Spent a fortune though home and away Like the other thousands You need to be itk for any free bees or invitations
Just didn't see any mate, no big deal and we all see things differently. I thought it was silly to say we shouldn't be thinking of a long term plan and just get out of L1 then think again ... ... it's that kind of thing that's got us where we are now.
