Some good fixtures for us today and we need to start taking advantage... Accrington V Shrewsbury (hopefully the Shrews do us a favour this time) Doncaster V Hull (points dropped by at least 1 top 6 team, hopefully a draw) Fleetwood V Charlton (Fleetwood had a poor season but hopefully they can get something here) Ipswich V Oxford (hopefully a draw, we need to pull away from these teams hovering around just below us) Pompey V Blackpool (Likely a Pompey win but there form is a little indifferent atm) Peterborough should have an easy win today and I think they'll be the team to stop now. Fancy them to win the league. We just need to concentrate on ourselves, hit a bit of form from now to end of the season and do our best to mount a challenge for automatic promotion. If we have to suffer the play offs then so be it. After results against Lincoln and Doncaster, I think we're better suited against the top teams because they don't sit back and they're a win or go home game so I would go in to them more confident than usual. Ha'way the Lads!!!
what's that you say, we win again? I'm pensive, so i'm not going to heap expectancy on todays performance that it is must-win etc, But belief is building we can finally go on a bit of a run. Today will be a tough match, they're in-form, but a 2-1 away win is very possible.
That did cross my mind but no this is the real deal. SAFC on the march. With the positivity brought in this week, the uncertainty gone them players will have a weight lifted off their shoulders and you can see they are playing with confidence. I expect us to take the game to them and win handsomely. Regardless whether he plays the 1st 11 with experience or the 1st 11 with the bairns we have strength on the bench. The squad depth will see us promoted methinks.
They say the darkest hour comes before the dawn. Shrewsbury was as low as I have felt for a long time with this club. The Doncaster performance, winning a semi-final, followed by takeover confirmation. Feels like a fantastic spring dawn. I think momentum in sport is huge. The squad and coaches must be flying. There are no east games and we have to have the right mentality. Get that right and we will be hard to stop this season now. Fancy us to round the week off today...
Good post mate. You're right about momentum, hard to build and important not to lose. I'm ridiculously nervous about this game, not because I doubt we can win ... ... just because of what a defeat would do to this confidence we suddenly have.
The bit that made me laugh was the criticism of us thinking we are a big club and that the tag should last forever. Simple fact is no matter which club you are if you can constantly attract 30000+ attendances in the 3rd tier of English football and your away following is higher than the majority of most teams home attendances, I'm sorry are team may be league one but as a club we certainly aren't
it has been noted, the first to jump on a bad performance, think it was the first time i saw criticism of LJ as well.
I think this is where people need to differentiate between big and successful. Are we a big club?, damn right we are and we always will be. Are we a successful club? Not for a long long time. Hopefully that will change
Any news on Stewart's injury/fitness? I know they said he suffered a set-back but that was over a week ago and they said it was expected to put him back a week. I'm guessing the lack of news means he's not in the squad/in full training yet?
Defence is a bit of a worry, hopefully Wright and Scowen are fit and if so, I would keep the team the same as last week
This from Johnson's match preview: “It might mean adapting our philosophy, to become a total football side rather than the counter-pressing side we are at the moment. And I don’t think people realise how much really goes into a team selection and what there is to consider. So what is counterpressing? Pressing, counterpressing, and counterattacking von AO am 05.03.2017 in den Kategorien Tactical Theory mit 5 Kommentaren Pressing, counterpressing, and counterattacking are three very popular concepts that are associated with the most exciting and dominant teams in modern football. Pressing and counterattacking are perhaps the more “classic” ideas in football tactics, while counterpressing is a buzzword which has become quite popular over the last five to six years – despite having existed for decades. But what do these terms really mean and why are they so important to modern football? Counterpressing can be defined as pressing the ball in transition from offense to defense – attempting to move the cycle of the “phases of play” in the opposite direction. The cycle of the game moves in the fashion shown in the above graphic – but what if you could move from offensive organization to defensive transition and immediately back into offensive organization? This “match control” is a main characteristic of counterpressing. It allows you to skip the defensive organization phase entirely if done correctly. https://spielverlagerung.com/2017/03/05/pressing-counterpressing-and-counterattacking/
That all sounds very impressive. I'd be over the moon if he had just said "we are going to be a get stuck in, never let the opposition settle, score more goals than them team"
Exactly, I don't think any Sunderland fan would claim we were successful. Just shows how fantastic our fans our. There are much more successful teams than us that could only dream of being supported the way we are.
