About time really. Some businesses have been creaming off the profits, whilst denying their 'employees' basic workers rights like sick pay and holiday pay. Also the excuse that zero hours contracts offer 'flexibility' for workers is another ruse that needs sorting out.
Just seen that on the news. In regards to the two that originally brought the appeal, it means they can no longer be termed as third party contractors. Meaning they will be entitled to holiday pay, and basic sick pay. The compensation has not yet been worked out. Now the bigger question is how will this apply to all third party contractors in the future? I knew agencies gave holiday and basic sick pay, I didn't know Uber didn't.
Like you say it's about time. Always thought the drivers were treated incredibly poorly and have never used them because of it.
Yeah they will have to treat people as employees from now who are earning from being logged onto the app rather than just fare durations.
That’s ****ed them. As up until now there was no disincentive for them signing up huge numbers of drivers to create massive over supply and kill the actual cab market. Now they’re going to have to get in the real world and employ drivers their service levels will drop right off and they’ll hopefully no longer be the obvious choice. ****ing leeches.
The article also alludes to the fact that they will also have to pay VAT on fares, so no more under cutting black cabs. I hope HMRC backdates it's bill.
About time someone started fighting back against these disruptive tech companies. All they’re doing is taking an unearned slice of hard working blokes cash by creating a virtual monopoly via ease of use. Just East are another set of ****s.
I use uber at least a few times a week. Only for convenience tbh if the fares end up being similar to a black cabby I'll just take them from now on. Saying that black cabbys are generally ****e these days. Sat nav fakes
They have to take the 'knowledge' before even being allowed a licence, why would a black cab need a Sat Nav?
I thought that too mate, but I've been in loads of black cabs with a sat nav in recent years. Loads of em now need telling where to go (obviously) and how to get there so I'm not so sure the "knowledge" is what it used to be.
Traffic alerts, speed cameras/police warning. Waze is class. The plethora of works going on for various reasons will make The Knowledge less useful than it once was.
Waze is OK, although I've had a few not turn up and still charge me the cancel fee so I kinda binned it off after that happened a few times.
Yeah I’ve had Ubers unable to get to me and charge a fiver for the privilege of driving off. Just complain and you get it back.
Funny enough an uber driver was chatting to me about this last night, I believe the uber drivers will get backdated payments, that what he said they were waiting on when we was chatting about furlough. I was a bit off my nut so wasn't really listening but I'm sure he said that.
