Sounds dodgy.

If you have a laptop and a USB-C/micro-USB cable just copy the photos/videos to your laptop and then to your new phone.

Or sync them with your Google account, they'll automatically copy over.

Have you tried turning it off then back on again?

Yes, twice on Monday and Tuesday, 4 times yesterday and 3 times already today. No luck any of the times though.
