Interesting article from the local rag tonight. I know this is just an editorial filler but I couldn't agree more with the sentiments.

I must admit that I am liking what PJ is saying and doing. He seems to have genuinely bought into the whole ethos of our wonderful club and long may it continue. What a complete change from the days of the Dark Lord! I remember the time when Ipswich legend Paul Mariner came back with Plymouth and Keane stood him up after the game.

    Good on you PJ!

I think a lot of this comes down to PJ's mindset. He seems a very happy and positive person. If you put this into context with Mr Keane it is easy to see the difference...

    Example;

PJ - Respectful to oppostion but we're going all out to win the game
RK - My side isn't as good as the opposition, we'll try our hardest not to get beaten

PJ isn't faultless but his enthusiasm and positivity paper over the cracks.

Getting us back to playing sexy football (last seen under BFJ and in glimpses under Magic) is the key to it all. It's what we've always been renouned for. The gates go up, more noise in PR, more money for the club etc etc... a perfect self fulfilling prophecy.

Agreed portmanpaul, he always says it like it is but adds a bit of humour so as not to be too negative.

To be fair JWM - youve got that the wrong way round - it was Mariner who 'stood up' Keano. It was Keane who was put out that Mariner didn't have a drink with him after the game because he was busy catching up with all the old faces.

What Keane did make abundantly clear though was that you shouldn't give your ex players and managers too warm-a-welcome because apparently they might perform better.

    That is, however, absolute tosh!

Completely agree with all that has been said, our history heritage and traditions are what have made the club punch above our weight for many years. I'm not the kind of person who opposes change at all but I just couldn't see what Keane was trying to do at the club. Like I say I felt he was trying to change us and change our strengths.

I can remember arguing until I was blue in the face whilst Keane was in charge about him trying to change what actually makes us different and special as a club and the reasons for why we have been successful in the past, but pretty typically just got a baracking of abuse from a few.

It seemed to me that Keane hated anything to do with the Ipswich way, and wanted to rip apart the foundations of the club rather than use them. He got rid of a lot players, 1 particularly sticks out being David Wright, because I've heard through the grape vine that he was almost part of the furniture at the club and a stereotypical Ipswich player, Keane didn't want this and said he felt that he along with Garvan were to comfortable.

Its great to see a stereotypical Ipswich manager in charge finally and also one with experience but at the same time pretty young. The more I think about it, the more right PJ seems to be for our club but only time will tell, and I think we should give him time even if it means being around midtable for a couple of seasons.

To be fair, I seem to remember after our dire start to the season hearing a lot of people (JWM?) saying the best thing for us would to be relegated and build up some momentum. Thankfully, it looks as though we don't have to drop quite as far as norwich before we turn ourselves around though!

    "We must embrace our history"

What does that even mean?!? Having had some good managers a very long time ago, doesn't really mean anything today, looks to me like typical Ipswich fans hiding in the past.

I don't see why I should care about either our team's history considering you've won some trophies from before I was born, that means nothing to me. What matters is the present - in which we are in Premier League and looking at home there. I don't see why I should feel any embarrassment for things that happened before I even existed.

Liverpool may have a more glamorous history than Chelsea for instance, but Chelsea is a better side!
