There's no doubt that luck plays a part but the theory in spending more money is that you try manipulating that luck in your favour. No one pays a record or large amount for someone they think may or may not be a good player, they pay it because they believe it'll be a big improvement on what we have, or at the very least help maintain a certain level. Many of ours have generally been significantly worse than what we've had and it's why we're now regressing, despite spending larger amounts, that to me implies we fail when spending big money.

Leicester's top 10 is very, very mixed, at best.
    Successes? Tielemans, Maddison, Pereira, Soyuncu.
Mixed or too early? Fofana, Perez, Castagne.
    Flops? Slimani, Iheanacho, Silva.

City and Liverpool have massively outspent us and have much larger wage bills.
The Scouse have also been incredibly lucky with a lot of their sales.
People have wasted a **** ton of money on crap players, for some reason. Mystifying.

Or that we don't have enough cash to maintain the team at the previous level. For a couple of seasons we had the second best squad in the PL. Such a squad costs £750m to buy from scratch. That's £30m per player. Only three of our signings have been higher than that so it's hardly surprising we've got worse.

Fair enough if you don't want to consider summer signings yet, we can leave Fofana and Castagne out but then we'd also have to leave Reguilon out.

That still then means Leicester have four successes in their top ten signings compared to our one - Son.

Spending power and wage bill isn't the defining factors as to why players can be successes or flops though. As I've said everything is comparative and it's about value for money for that particular team. We don't expect our players to be as good as City's or Pool's. I don't consider Lo Celso a flop because he's not as good as de Bruyne, I consider him a flop because he's injury prone and hasn't done enough when fit when taking into account the money we paid for him.

I agree there, there's been a hell of a lot of wasted money on big signings amongst many clubs.

I wouldn't say second best squad, second best team yes but it was generally squad depth that cost us. We had depth in defence but not in midfield or attack.

Things have gotten worse mainly through poor decision making by Levy, Poch/ Jose and Hitchen. We've passed up on good players, spent unwisely on others, given new deals to those undeserving who are now tough to shift and in one season we didn't spend at all.

We got the second highest number of points in the PL over a three year period. To improve the squad from that is almost impossible on our budget. Your apportioning blame for something which was unavoidable. Of course some decisions were wrong. That is just normal.

The team would’ve been almost impossible to improve on but not the squad.

That’s the thing, it wasn’t just some decisions, it was plenty. It was one bad decision after another and now we are where we are because of it. We’ve regressed so much to the point where the hard work Poch done in his first 3-4 years was more or less all for nothing because we’re now more or less back to the level of when he first took over.

Their whole defence has been awful. Weird formation and no reaction from the manager to going behind.

They probably surprised the Catalans by being Dutch, instead of French.

Not unless it involves them beating you and getting a ludicrous, bent penalty, no.

Took his eye off the ball and decided not to sign any players, then started talking about leaving when we had that game coming up.
