    I was expecting us to appoint him, when Levy lost his ****ing senses and went for AVB.

    As enjoyable as it is watching you lose, I'm more focused on the Benfica game, which is our biggest game of the season so far. They have ex-Spurs players Adel Taarabt and Jan Vertonghen starting in their first-team XI, so I'd be happier if we can smash them with that added incentive ;).

    Describing Taarabt as an ex-spurs player is a bit of a stretch considering the guy played all of about 10 times for us. Probably spent more time in the cafeteria than he did on the pitch.

    As for Super Jan though...he's coming for ya.

    Yeah West Ham are in a bit of a sweet spot right now, got a decent balance to them.

    And every West Ham fan that I know was hugely disappointed when he was reappointed last season!

    Now look at them a team that plays to its strengths and is well coached.

    At the start of the season it would probably have been the case that most people would have thought that only Rice of their team would get in our starting XI, now on current form only Kane, Son and possibly Regullion would get in theirs!

    ...and most of them loved the appointment of Pellegrini.

    Most fans want the aspirational manager and major signing...the big wage shows commitment that will bring big rewards. However, that's so often not the case and the tortoise wins the race, not the hare..

    Our big signings have been crap...and it's the same story with our big ticket managers. We've done best under low key appointments - Bill Nick, Keithy, BMJ, 'Arry, Poch. West Ham are the same in that regard. They're much better off with players and managers who aren't stars, because they might stick around for long enough to do the club some good. Since the Brooking/Bonds/Devonshire era, as soon as anyone gets star billing at West Ham...they're agitating for a move (Ince, Payet, Arnautovic, etc.).

    That’s horrifying yet true.

    I’ve said a few times but Soucek’s been a real game changer for them too since joining in January 2020.

    Slotted in alongside Rice and added real solidity in the midfield whilst he’s been a huge threat at the other end of the pitch as well, primarily because he’s a monster in the air. He’s done to West Ham what Fernandes has done to Man Utd, just completely elevated the whole team. Him and Fernandes have been the best two signings over the last 12+ months and the fact no one really knew this guy makes it that bit more impressive on their part.

    Think pound for pound we probably have the worst record of big money signings in the league.

    Our top ten record signings:
    Ndombele - £55m. Turning good but nowhere near a £55m player yet.
    Lo Celso - £42m (loan and fee combined). Huge flop. Made worse seeing Bruno at Utd.
    Sanchez - £40m. Huge flop.
    Sissoko - £30m. Flop.
    Lamela - £30m. Kept our physios in a job.
    Soldado - £27m. Major flop.
    Bergwijn - £27m. Burst onto the scene, dreadful since.
    Reguilon - £23m. Success so far.
    Lucas - £25m. Living off of a CL semi final.
    Son - £22m. Huge success.

    The managers, particularly under ENIC/Levy, are just the same...

    Hoddle - Former England manager. Paid handsomely to get him out of Southampton;

    Santini - Current French manager when we approached him...which we did because Levy was scared to appoint the unknown BMJ;

    Ramos - We paid a ****ing fortune to get this bloke in. The hottest ticket in Spanish football at the time;

    Mourinho - Massive fanfare...massive wages...and he's The Bloke in the Coat.

    Same for AVB, whilst he flopped at Chelsea he was still regarded as the next best thing managerial wise... proved a one trick pony with Bale.

    I never got his appointment. One of my brothers was convinced that he was 'The One'.

    He was ****ing dreadful at Chelsea and spoke about replacing players who were heroes to many and mates with the chairman. That was beyond ****ing stupid.

    That said, for a short while in that first season...with Sandro and Mousa in midfield....

    Oh well.

    He done similar here too. Cast Dawson and Ekotto aside when there weren’t better players at the club to do so. We lost Ekotto especially because of him. I think both were sold under Poch but that was only after they’d been “finished” here by AVB.

    Just out of curiosity, why is George Graham referred to as 'The Bloke In The Coat'?

    <laugh> No, that I can understand and makes perfect sense. But the circumstances of GG's appointment is very different to Sol's, is it not?

    Interestingly, I found a short clip on YouTube about when he was announced as Spurs manager at the time (I was probably about 3 years old when he was appointed as Spurs boss, so I was none the wiser). Fans were very split on him being appointed it seemed, and some were split over him being sacked too:

    When he was appointed:

    When he was sacked:

    You're not the outspoken young bloke in that 1st vid by any chance, are you, Brian? <laugh>

    As I've said before, I don't think others are much better.
    If you look at Transfermarkt current squad values (no idea how they calculate them though), our squad is worth more than what we paid for it by a higher amount than any other club but Liverpool.

    If you really want to ruin your day, try and find clips of Leeds fans going completely baboonfaeces at him leaving them to join us

    Luckily that was the worst thing to happen to Leeds...

    Not me...but he wasn't wrong. Graham was the wrong manager for us because it divided the fan base.

    It's not difficult to see that divided football clubs aren't successful. If the fans aren't behind the manager or the players or the board, you're ****ed. West Ham are currently doing brilliantly because their fans can't **** it up by rightly expressing their hatred for The Dildo Bros.

    Appointing Terry Neill, George Graham and then, Mourinho was ****ing stupid and because it pissed people off...none of them worked.
