    I wouldn't want him either

My personal choice would be for Crystal Palace's Butland.

    Predictability is good

You know what they say about doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.

Will Meslier be a better keeper in two years ?
    Absolutely he will

All I can say is, you're deluded in the extreme

We can't get Henderson, but hypothetically, if we could, he is way better than Meslier at this point in time

I wasn't aware I had a Likes-to-Posts ratio or that this was a popularity contest

Henderson is a better 'keeper than Meslier right now, no question about that

So you'd never drop a 20 year old player for having a shocker of a game or just a 20 year old goal keeper ?

West Brom and Man Utd dropped points though - a good result there.

Ooh you almost sound like a supporter <laugh>

Others should take note...you get behind the boys when it goes wrong.

Meslier was let down by Bielsa's poor decisions regarding who played where. It showed all over the pitch up until about the 60 minute when he (Bielsa) finally sorted it out.

    Loads of positives;

Struijk is a great centre half and dangerous at attacking set pieces.
Shaks has good movement and an energy to his game when played in his correct midfield role.
Roberts is starting to look like he's turned a corner and could be like having a new signing.
Raphina is still the real deal.
Huggins looks like he may have a future with us.

Glass half full as always <ok>

"No question about that". - you must be fcukin' blind - there's loads of people questioning it here, far less the rest of social media.

For the record, I agree with Marcos - he's spot on. Unusual, but true. :D

    Then you're blind too

No way is Meslier a better 'keeper than Man United's Henderson.
Not right now at any rate.

The kind of mistake Meslier made today to give away a penalty was just unforgivable.

If we had a decent 'keeper as a back up, I'd play him next game. But we don't.

Not with you on that one Poly.

Young Meslier needs supporting right now and he'll be better for the experience. Of course if a player keeps messing up then a period on the sidelines is in order but you don't over react to the first cock up.

A striker misses a sitter or a pen, oh he’s down on confidence bla bla.
A winger flies past a defender, wow the lad is quick bla bla
A Keeper makes an error, drop the useless fecker!
Give the lad some slack all keepers make errors and some bad ones.
Or maybe Poly can find us the perfect keeper.

Didn't we use to have another expert on goalkeeping on here?

I'm not advocating he be hung out to dry like Liverpool shamelessly did with Karius following his nightmare Champions League final in 2018

But sometimes protection is being shielded against a repeat performance. If we had a decent 'keeper on the bench that we could trust, I'd play him and rest Meslier.

Ok. When Henderson made his mistake against us he was older than Meslier is now. I think we are agreed on that? I honestly don't know the answer but, if I had to bet, I very much doubt Wilder dropped him even though it cost Sheffield United the game (at the time, a potentially crucial promotion game). If you need absolute facts, I will check but bear with me.

Wilder knew he was a very good goalkeeper and his support paid dividends ultimately, they were promoted and we weren't (in the 18/19 season). He did this for a player that didn't even belong to them.

You (hopefully correctly) assert that Meslier will be a much better keeper in two years time, maybe even better than Henderson is now - who knows? The big difference is, Meslier IS our player (capitals used for effect not insult). He has been one of our potential POTY for me even allowing for yesterday and dropping him after a poor game won't help his development any more than it would have Henderson's 2 years ago.

For THESE reasons, I stick by, I'd have Meslier over Henderson every day of the week. Yes, I do know it is hypothetical and very likely Henderson is better than Meslier is today (I don't know, I have only watched them once this season and hated it) but Meslier is OUR player and will get my support :emoticon-0148-yes:

OK, I can go with that.

I think I said that no way would Man Utd ever sell Henderson to us and even if they did make him available, he's on way too high wages for us to sign, so the idea was only ever hypothetical

Right now Henderson is a better 'keeper than Meslier. Meslier is very athletic and might well turn into a better 'keeper and I've said that I think if the Euros go ahead this year, I tip him to make the French squad if not play any minutes.

The EPL is not a training academy though. I'm all for getting young talented players in the team as fast as possible (Gelhardt for example)
But goal keepers are different, you really can't afford for them to make mistakes, like Meslier did on Sunday, as they "learn" the game.

Every time Meslier got the ball my heart was in my mouth. Granted he wasn't helped by the likes of Cooper who frequently passed the ball back to Meslier when pressed as if expecting him to be able to make a pass that Cooper couldn't. The defense put too much on Meslier who, sadly, wasn't up to the task.

In the short term, if we're faced with a high press, like Arsenal presented us with, we're going to have to scrap this building from the back.

In the mid-term, this Summer Meslier desperately needs some help and we need to sign another 'keeper as a priority. I don't go for this idea that we need a washed up veteran to school Meslier. My personal preference is someone like Butland from Crystal Palace.

I get where Poly is coming from I think but also get a bit of short term pain will bring a lot of long term gain. Butland, for example, may improve us a little for a little time but that won’t improve Meslier, playing will and I, for one, would love Meslier to be our long term future :emoticon-0148-yes:

One other thing I would say is, the EPL has to be a training academy for us to an extent for now I’m afraid otherwise you have to sign the James McLean / Robbie Brady type players and become a Burnley if you are lucky rather than take the risk and go for a Raphinha.
