Just a quick message to all who wanted to change a winning team and drop waggy. You got your wish and....I`ve never seen waggy as poor as Danny was yesterday. One decent cross and....erm nothing. Even on a bad day Waggy has energy, obviously Green can get better BUT its got to be waggy back for stevenage. The experiment didnt work.Maybe Danny needs games which having no reserve team is difficult to achieve BUT not good enouh by a long way yesterday, our worse player by a country mile and thats saying something as aaprt from solly no one performed to be honest.
It's actually become a big problem in my opinion. Does CP keep faith an back green, as dropping him after 1 league start could drop his confidence. Hayes was a massive shock for me. CP got it wrong yesterday, but let's see how he reacts... I think green should retain and be given another chance. He's a good player who just needs to settle in and find a bit of form.
According to my work-mate who is a Daggers season-ticket holder Green is a very inconsistent player, and you just don't know which one you'll get on the day. The question is, how do you tell in advance? The good Danny Green is a match-winner; yesterday's Green is not worth a place on the bench.
Agreed on Green but I don't think the managing of Wagstaff is as good this season as last, he used to run past defenders but is now passing back, would like to see his pace on the wing more.
I think Waggy has improved a shed load this season. But saying that Green has more natural talent, and with match practice will come good - remember that he hasn't yet had the opportunity to gel into the side in really competitive matches yet.
I hadn't noticed, always liked him as a player and would want to see him in the first team every game but remember him taking on defenders more last season whereas this one he seems to cut back rather than do this.
I'll give Green the benefit of the doubt because I want him to be good and he may still not be match fit BUT he was woeful yesterday. His positional sense didn't seem great - why won't our wingers ever hug the touchline? - and even if he wanted the ball, for me he wasn't in any real position to recieve it. His crossing was poor, his throws ridiculous. And more tan anything he seemed petulant and arrogant - when he had a little strop because no-one was ready for a quick throw he just threw the ball away - even though Solly was coming over to take it off him. I don't like the cut of his jib.
Maybe instead of seeing Wagstaff as backup for Green we should maybe see Green as backup for Stephens and Hollands. Watching him yesterday I saw him drift into the middle of the park leaving Solly exposed more than once. Still like the Kish says, I'm more than happy to give Danny the benefit of the doubt.
Waggy should never have been dropped. Only a poor run of form can justify doing that, but it has not been forthcoming, so young Scotty should feel hard done by. Putting Green in the side slowed us down too much, and with JJ on the other wing we had no way of getting the ball down the flanks quickly. Powell messed it up yesterday against a team which we should have beaten.
If you mean a poor run of form for Wagstaff, then I think it was forthcoming. If you mean a poor run of form for the team, then I'm not convinced at all. Take the MK Dons game for example. The equaliser in that was a Green cross and Kermorgant goal. Kermorgant made the difference against Sheffield United too, scoring with his first touch and getting in and around the Sheff Utd defence. By the 'never change an unbeaten side' rule, people would be rewarding Hayes and Wagstaff for work done by Green and Kermorgant. I'm not saying that I would've picked the team Powell put out (I probably would've picked the same starting 11 as started against Sheffield United), but I'm not convinced at all by the 'never change an unbeaten side' argument.
Fair enough IA but if it worked against MK Dons and Sheffield United where Green and Kermot came off the bench why not do the same against Tranmere. We changed the Squad on a weekly basis when we were in the Championship and got relegated We kept the same squad at the start of League One and went unbeaten, we changed it and twice dropped away. Weve left the squad alone again this year and were top Based on that i cant see how sticking with the same eleven doesnt work...
The often repeated factor is greens inconsistency, is it then his attitude or a confidence that can be easily affected ?
I think Green is the better player than Waggy, although with Waggy when he is poor you at least get a high work rate. Green is similar to Jackson in that he won't provide the team with much but has the ability to do something special and win us the game. I am not sure we can afford to have both Green and Jackson in the side...
People are focusing on Danny Green just because we are expecting him to be our best player, the David Beckham of league one as he's called, but that was just one bad game from him, i am more worried by Stephens who started off the season surprsingly good, but is getting worser and worser, do we have anyone we can replace him with, I'm not sure, that's the big problem, wingers can disappear in a game without making much harm, but you need the people in the middle of pitch to show up and Stephens isn't any more.
I understand what you're saying, but it puts Green and Kermorgant in a lose-lose position. If they play well and turn the game around, they stay on the bench for the next match. If they don't turn the game around or are unimpressive, then I guess they probably stay on the bench. One of the things that annoyed me about Parkinson was that he never changed a team until it lost a match, then he changed it a bit and then kept that team until it lost and so on. After the first defeat, you got the impression that he didn't really know what the best team was and he'd just put out the same team until it would lose, regardless of what problems might have been in it. The classic example was Llera, who would have his traditional excellent two matches, one off match and then the next one would be a disaster, and he'd be dropped and put to the back of the line until his next turn, when it'd be the same thing again. I fully understand arguments for keeping Wagstaff and Hayes in the team, I might even agree with them (about Hayes definitely), but I'm not entirely convinced on the 'wait until it's broke before you improve it' line
