As opposed to losing 4-1 or 3-1. All that is because the other teams are defending us better. Because Salah and Mane are being marked closely and because teams are putting more players in front of the goal, it means we can't attack like we want. The fast ball forward isn't working as it leaves our forwards isolated and up against a group of defenders. Can't go for the jugular because we're not being allowed too, no amount of attacking will change that. We've been camped out in front of the opposition box in most of our games since Christmas, that shows attacking intent, that the majority of the team is in the opposition half for the majority of the game. But we're not creating th chances because there's not room to. We need to get opposition teams to break up their own solid structure (cause we ain't doing it). How else are we going to do that unless we give up the possesion stat. But in order to do that we need to learn to defend.
Don't agree at all. The gaps are there when we counter, we just opt not to take them. Lots of passes available but players are playing safe because their scared of losing possession and being countered
And why are they scared of losing possession? Could it be because the oppositions are marking and crowding our forwards out? And in turn being countered on? Possession means **** if you don't score, I don't get why we've suddenly become worried about having it. We need to draw opposition teams out of their Counter attacking structure and that means letting them have possession and encouraging them to attack us, so that we in turn can counter them, use the speed of Salah and Mane in behind. Also, whilst I'm not writing him off, I don't think Thiago will ever suit us. I was sceptical as to why we were targeting him in the summer (when we really needed a CB and better options up front). Just think he encourages us to take the extra pass and he's not a great in his defensive efforts.
They aren't scared because our forwards are being marked, why would they be scared of that? They're scared because they know we're open to a counter (which we end up being anyway but they missed the opportunity to potentially hurt the oopposition). If we don't take those (risky at times) chances with the passes, we won't open them up! Obviously, I'm massively against negative football so I'm probably biased here too. PS... I reluctantly agree with you about Thiago. Great player but we changed our style to accommodate him. Doesn't seem fit enough either but he's not had a pre-season with us shld he's just confe back from injury so that may be harsh.
Not talking about Negative football, rather Counter Attacking. Negative football is Fat Sam with his target man. Counter Attack is what Leicester did to us yesterday. But this does need the defence and Midfield to hit the ball forward quicker without thinking about Possession and would mean that we would have to defend properly at times as well.
But were can't counter, that's what I'm talking about. We start to counter but either **** the pass up (disrupting ther flow) or decide to hold the ball up. The only country attacking goal we've scored for a while is the Trent > Shaqiri > Salah beauty.
I'm not sure if the break has done you good or not, Bumps. You were very pessimistic when we were ripping it up and now you're the most positive Liverpool poster on here since we've gone to ****
Rumours of the Origi injury also untrue cos he trained today together with Davies, Thiago and Naby. Naby won't be travelling to face his previous club, but he is obviously close to a return.
at least he is completing some form of training regime. He's on his last chance here to get fit and stay fit by all accounts.
Fab facing a 'race against time' to be fit for the derby........................when will this ****ing end
it is starting to get a bit tiresome to say the least .It is all made worse by the overplaying of players who clearly need a break which may well lead to them being injured .
