Getting the players out is the main issue for me. I think they’ll be hard to shift because of their age and the financial situation for a lot of clubs. Whether Levy will take lower valuations just so we can get the squad sorted, or indeed whether clubs come in for the players that they’d actually want to move to, is going to be key. I think if we win a trophy then Kane will stay, Sonny is the more likely of the two to move on IMO but I think they both appreciate the club and like it here. That only goes so far in football of course but I expect it to be more of a factor with Kane than Son. They’ve both got 2/3 years left on contract though IIRC so it would probably also take more money than any club can readily spend this summer to get them, which might work in our favour too.
Summer shopping list: A top class RB A top class CB A top class CM Plus some upgrades on other squad players.
I don't think the climate will have affected some of the big, big boys and even if it has they'll find a way to get the cash. I think any of PSG, City, Barca and possibly Madrid could stump up whatever our asking price is should Kane make it clear he saw his future elsewhere. I agree he won't agitate for a move but he's said once or twice that he's happy to stay so long as he feels the club is showing the right ambition and is on the right path. We may have the ambition to a degree but I don't think we're on the right path at present.
Yeah I agree shifting them will be the hardest aspect. A mix of our valuation, interest from clubs as well as interest from the player to go to a new club (in which the majority of this squad won't be able to get a move to a team equal or better than us) will potentially prove as stumbling blocks. Like I said to TCM, I don't think the pandemic will have affected certain clubs as badly as others so I'm not sure that we can rely on teams being "too skint" so to speak to be a deterrent. I still imagine the big boys having a good amount to spend, especially if it's on a top player. City still spent about £130m last summer on Dias, Ake and Torres, so I think if they got a whiff that Kane would be willing to leave Spurs they could easily stump up the dough.
Barca and Madrid are skint though by all accounts mate, I think they’ll really struggle to afford the kind of fee and wage commitment either Son or Kane would require. They’re both more Madrid-style players too IMO, wouldn’t see either at Barca. I can’t see Levy entertaining a bid from anyone in the PL so that’s City out, which leaves PSG - doubly dangerous because of the money and the Poch connection. However their forward line is absolutely stacked. If Mbappe was to make a move then one of them might be a target, same if Neymar left, but again I don’t think Barca would be able to afford him and that’s where he’s going if it’s anywhere IMO. Son is the more likely to make that move in my opinion as I also don’t think Kane would want to uproot a young family and move abroad. Doesn’t seem the type, though he’d have no problems on the pitch.
And I think because of the timing of his release clause becoming active, he’s probably gettable at a much lower price than we would ask for Kane. I think the clause comes in summer 2022 at something crazy like €60m so nobody’s going to bid massively above that with only a year to go, unless there’s multiple clubs he’s interested in moving to. Realistically you wouldn’t see Kane moving for anything less than double that, more to a PL club, surely.
I actually messed up tbh, I meant to put Bayern instead of Barca in the original comment as yeah, Barca are skint. Lewandowski will be 33 near the start of next season so I think they'll be a dark horse to make a move for a top striker sooner rather than later. Madrid are so corrupt I think they'd find a way to get the money if they felt Kane was gettable. Benzema ain't getting any younger and Jovic isn't favoured. PSG with Poch definitely puts them in the reckoning, even with their current options.
Yeah he'd make the most sense for them as a long term Aguero replacement. Though they'll face a ton of competition for him. I think just about every big dog in Europe will be competing for him in due course.
Yeah Bayern could be worrying. Again another club you’d think would look at Haaland though I doubt he’d want to wait around for Lewandowski so the move might be a bit early for him if it happens this summer. I’d be more worried about Sonny going to Bayern because of his history in Germany, but I think they’re better off for wide players than at 9 so it might not be the best fit.
Haaland will definitely be the primary target for most clubs, you've even mentioned he'll likely be cheaper than Kane too due to the release clause in 2022 but I still think if teams got a whiff of Kane potentially wanting out, we wouldn't be short of offers. I think we have a better chance of keeping Son than Kane. He's a year older (I think) and is a player with a shorter shelf life in my opinion. Kane - ankles permitted - has around 5+ years left at the very top in my opinion because his game isn't revolved around speed or skill which are things that wane in players as they get older. I think in 3 ish years Son won't be as good as he is now, could be wrong though.
The simple way to make The Sheikh Mansour Team back off is do what we did with Kyle Walker: full fee up front, or **** off
Yeah Sonny’s pretty much exactly a year older. I still think he’s way more likely to move on though. I don’t think Levy will countenance selling either to a PL club, and Son is the more likely target for a foreign team IMO. Like I said, I reckon the likelihood of Kane uprooting a young family and moving abroad is minimal. I think clubs would be worried about the disruption to his family life affecting him and him ‘doing a Bale’. Sonny has already moved around the world and between leagues and has nothing tying him to the UK beyond his contract. Low risk there compared to plenty with Kane.
If Kane goes because he wants to leave I just can’t begrudge him...the guy deserves to be winning silverware...we sell him for enough dough to buy Haaland. Haaland wouldn’t choose us though
Real Madrid plan on selling France defender Raphael Varane this summer if he does not sign a new deal. The 27-year-old has previously attracted interest from Paris St-Germain and Manchester United. (Marca)
Dayot Upamecano has agreed to sign for Bayern at the end of the season as the Bundesliga once again demonstrates its bizarrely masochistic fetish with serving as one vast academy and scouting network for the munich giants. Never forget, Dortmund fans applauded Lewandowski. They applauded.
Which is basically the only reason why the Bundesliga is boring. They do most things right, but what's the point if one team is going to win it every year?
I found it hilarious to see butthurt Man Utd fans complaining that nobody will take the Bundesliga seriously if one team just buys players from their rivals every year Like Man Utd did with Andy Cole, Robin van Persie, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic...
