Special K, 70 today. Broke our hearts in 74 but what a player and manager he turned out to be for us. NUFC legend.

Happy birthday KK. A superb player and great manager. Treated like **** by Mike Ashley and Co. Should have a statue given what he did for the club between 1992-1997.

    Did a tremendous job.

Took us from 1 game from being relegated to the old third division to a game or 2 short of winning the premier league.

Unfortunately it didn't happen and the fact it was a great achievement has been lost in the history books.

Man United fans still hate on him now, so he must've done well.

Well 25 years on you're still singing about him and Shearer it's always been a bit weird that.. Still gloating about bearing little old newcastle

Strangely I don't mind man united at all now. I don't like Chelsea or City and anyone that beats them great.

Hard to decide whether KK or Sir Bob was the best manager in my time. With respect to Sir Bob KK wins it because of where we started, where we got to and how we played.

KK did make some bad decisions eg the reserves but what a team he put together, what a team.

Not sure how it is hard to decide.

    Best football under KK
    Highest position under KK.

Bit like choosing between which Grandparent was the best though

Well he was the last Newcastle manager to win anything of note. And he did buy players like Supermac, Terry Mac, Tony Green, Jimmy “Jinky” Smith to name but a few.

KK wasn't a particularly good manager in the traditional sense, but he was a force of nature in terms of motivation and somehow he managed to get his players believing they were footballing gods. Took us from potential obscurity to the brink of greatness.

Happy Birthday KK. He will always be loved round here!

Why wasn't he? You don't think he had tactics or was it we were too attack focused which made it appear we didn't have tactics?

Personally think he did have tactics especially noticeable in his second time here with his jigging about the formation and playing knobba Owen in the hole

His plan A worked so well that he never really developed the ability to have a plan B. He relied so much on players having self-belief that he struggled when they were having periods of doubt or a lack of confidence. His style also took so much out of him that there was always the danger that it would burn him out - which sadly it eventually did. I loved his time here, but he did have his flaws.

The Shearer thing is true. Fergie confirmed he tried twice to sign him and twice was rebuffed (there is still mutual respect between both though). Man Utd fans generally hate him for that. The away end is non stop Shearer songs when they come to our place even though he retired years ago. He must owe them a fortune for all the rent due for him living in there heads these years.

I was there, in the Leazes, when King Kev made his debut for us against QPR. It was almost 40 years ago
