As the title says: If you could change one rule in football then what would it be? I had a thought a few months ago and would like to hear your opinions... The obvious ones that people think of is Goal Line Technology or the Offside Rule; but what about this...? I think that if a player is caught diving then they should be given an automatic 3 match ban with no appeal! As an 18 year old, even I am annoyed with the pathetic faking of injuries and diving to win decisions. This just is pathetic and gives the referee grief! I believe that players should be booked and on top of that, after the match, FA/FIFA Officials should view the incident again and if they are caught diving then that palyer should automatically be given a game ban. Admittedly the after-game viewing is probably a bit too far. But think about it... If you bring in that rule then it would quickly cut out the cheats...! So your thoughts please RLGB! I know you can somehow make this an 'article' which is what I would like to do, but I am not sure how so any help would be appreciated
The 'Obstruction' rule. If a player has not touched the ball and wants to let the ball run out of play, he can sheild it from an opposition player - surely this is obstruction? If the sheilding player has not touched the ball then he is not 'in control' of the football has no right to block his opponent. How many times do we see defenders letting the ball go out for a goal-kick and blocking out the attacker? Plain stupid.
I think editing the thread so that you don't include General Chat members may be a step forward. Failing that, if I were you, I'd copy the text, and ask a Mod here to delete the thread for you, then start again. Only this time, exclude GC from your range of forums.
Much the most sensible idea, RLGB. The Offside rule. I'm making that easy decision of just agreeing with Nigel Adkins.
The use of additional substitues during extra-time. If 3 subs are allowed for 90 minutes, why is this not increased when the 90 mins goes to 120 mins? In Tennis, the players get an additional hawkeye challenge each when a set goes into a tie-break, because the initial 3 (incorrect) challenges each is just for the 'actual' set. It makes no sense that you can have players falling down with cramp all over the pitch in the 100th min or 110th min, when there are perfectly fit and capable guys sitting on the sidelines, unable to come on. Tired players also reduces the quality of the spectacle for the spectator in my opinion.
THIS. And also the rule about getting booked for taking your shirt off is ridiculous! When a player does that you can tell how much the goal meant to them and is a fantastic way of seeing the passion of the game!
Don't stop play if player injured. Get them off field of play if they can walk. The time wasting does my head in. And if I can have another no subs in last 5 minutes of game.
Definitely. Apparently this is so the cameras can see the shirt sponsor when the players celebrate. Sickening corporate greed.
The most nonsensical rule of all has to be fining a manager for not fielding his "strongest side". That's a piss take.
Holloway got fined for it but Ferguson rested nearly as many for a Prem game not long ago and not nothing...I bloody wonder why... *Cough* Poyet *Cough*.
THIS 100% Its not playing fair is it?, maybe there should be a free kick offered for unsportsman like conduct. If you want the ball to go out of play, you should play it out, not stop someone else from playing back in. I remember Arsenal using it to great effect against Saints at Cardiff in the FA cup, not only do you `win` the ball back its also a great time waster.
Ye that rule is pretty silly. Considering Wenger changes from a team of teenagers to a team of children or cup games and nothing gets said...
