Another thing that gets to me is people putting something like box's instead of boxes. Saw it all the time when I used to walk through town to college on market stalls when they were being set up. You'd have thought they would have at least been educated!

I hate Americanisms, the term and concept of "sweet 16" also pisses me off. Some neighbours round the corner had sweet 16 banners up round the corner. I was not happy

<laugh> Most people go into that area of work through a parent or other family member, so it's not as if they've got A-Levels or degrees in English!

I despise the way American culture is taking over our language and way of life over here, being 16 wasn't a big deal when I turned that age, 18 was the one you wanted to be.

Also that's very true, but come on, they would have at least been taught that in school though!

I don't have a degree in English but I still know how to spell <laugh> It's not difficult!

There's a shop round the corner from my old house that has signs round the top saying " BEDS MATTRESS'S WARDROBES CARPET'S "
If you're going to include pointless punctuation in words where it doesn't need to be, then at least be ****ing consistent about it!!

edit; before any of you lot with a good memory out there point out I'm in the middle of an English degree, I'm well aware about that and it doesn't count <laugh>

Yeah I'm good thanks, just a little busy with packing for the house move on Wednesday & work! How about yourself?
Also agree with many others on here regarding the bastardisation of the English language by Americanisms creeping into everyday use (even on this post my spell check is flagging up bastardisation saying it should be spelt with a Z instead & spelt/spelled).

People who actually manage to mix up "of" and "off" (when writing).

If you ever go over there apparently they speak 'American.' As far as i'm aware they speak English, a slightly backwards version of it, but still English. It's things like these that make me wonder why they are allowned to pro-create.

I would have gone and complained, that is just a nightmare of errors.

An alarming amount of people on my facebook use 'are' instead of 'our'. But I went to a school full of stupid kids and chavs. Was nice being the smartest in the year though. Me and my mates were in the "gifted and talented" group and got to go on cool trips <laugh>

One of my housemates is dyslexic and the other one has really bad punctuation so I have to correct it for him sometimes in essays, and he's doing an English degree with me <laugh> Crazy. My dyslexic mate I can let off though I suppose...

The full title of my course is English and American Literature. So yes, I know I'm also studying American Literature but y'know <laugh> So not quite the language side of it (which is sinfully boring), but spelling and punctuation is part and parcel of any English degree really..
