I'm a patriot, it gets a bit tiring these generalisations. I voted for my own reasons. Attacking patriots with generalisations such as fisherman and the like is just painting narratives, that in no way fit the whole or even part of the argument why 'some' people voted leave. It might be fitting to some fisherman, but Fosse in no way, made that clear in his text.

I was replying to a specufic post that Tobes made about fishing tarrifs and the EU 3rd party exporting rules and how it impacts our fishing fleet ... that you think it was a dig at you and 'patriots like you' is wholly down to your insecurities and perhaps an over bloated sense of self importance. Rest assured, you rarely cross my mind

If, on the other hand, you want to see it as a dig at the dishonesty and misinformation of the Brexit campaign, fair enough... it was ... the fishermen weren't the only ones duped ... now where is that lovely Big Red Bus with the big fat lies again?

I mean if we’re talking politics and Brexit then I still don’t see what all the fuss was about. The world was supposed to collapse and even with an economy-crippling pandemic thrown in, it’s not that bad, is it?

Just a side note on imports / exports that is a direct result of the deal struck and the U.K.’s chosen future method of VAT collection btw, that some might not be aware of.

Some bright spark decided to copy and paste the future EU rules on VAT collection for 3rd countries that comes into force July this year iirc, and apply the same rules for the U.K. moving forwards - Worldwide.

So the idea is that all 3rd country suppliers will have to register with HMRC and collect VAT from the consumer on behalf of the U.K. and submit the payment and returns to HMRC. In the same way the EU intend to work moving forwards. Only they didn’t seem to quite realise the salient difference, as The U.K. is a 65 million market, the EU is a 550m market. So if you’re a niche low volume supplier, the cost and hassle (circa £1000 a year to register and submit is what I saw) then you’re unlikely to see value in bothering. That’s why we’re now seeing ‘we no longer supply to the UK’ on many websites.

Like I said, you've been spending too much time on GC. You attacked patriots, therefore I saw your comment as an attack on anyone that is a patriot. As for self importance you need to go look in a mirror. You see yourself as the forum joker, I see you as a sad old man, who constantly wants to remind us his mrs is a decade younger than yourself, insecurities indeed. Was listening to a prog on radio 4 about this the other day. It was a German flower and seed seller for ornamental plants. The cost of exporting to the UK due to the extra red tape and associated costs have made it unviable.

I can’t remember the exact figures, but it was adding something like 50-80 euros per order to the UK customer. So they’ve simply ****ed it all off instead.

 

Yeah I did tell him he needs to find a bit more chill.
