The very name Fotheringham sends a shiver down my spine. The thought of shocking midfielders like Fozzy and Andy Hughes, bad defenders like Jurgen Colin and Matthieu Louis Jean and dismal strikers like Chris Brown and Peter Thorne come to mind. Between our relegation in 2004 and Grant Holt arriving, did any manager make a decent signing?
To be fair Peter Grant brought in The King of Spain; Roedent bought Hoolahan and Gunn bought Grant Holt. Probably more due to the monkey-with-a-typewriter theory than hidden talent-spotting genius though!
We had Earnshaw, Dublin and Kennedy come in in that time period, of course they summed up the trouble at the club at that time. Earnshaw showed just how little financial sense the club had, by allowing a clause to be put in his contract that meant he left one season later for the exact sum we paid for him. Dublin summed up the 'success through prudence' mantra that was going round the club as, although he was our best player for a couple of years, he was a cheap option who was going to retire soon. Finally Kennedy summed up the Rodent era. A risky loanee who had a couple of good games, but ultimately always injured. If you want to see some of tripe we signed over the years have a look at this site http://www.ex-canaries.co.uk/years/index.htm Gives you all the squads, signings and departures from the 98/99 season, there are some right corkers in there that actually make Fozzy look half decent, Julian Brellier anyone?
" Fotheringham had all the grace and flair of a creaky filing cabinet rusting in a ditch. " Pretty funny read, the guy was awful
