That's the thing. We didn't want to invest in the youth hence the **** coaching.

It is well documented that KK had to scrap the reserves due to focusing on the first team squad only.

He didn’t have to scrap the reserves. He chose too. It was a bad decision which set us back years.

Also, if I remember correctly, KK scrapped the reserves as at that time their games had to be played at St James’ and that was affecting the quality of the pitch surface which KK objected to as it impacted on the way the first team were playing.

Terrible decision which led to Michael Carrick departing for West Ham. It was largely down to the reserves playing on the pitch. Anyone who went to the games at the time, we had real problems with the pitch. We used to have dozens of volunteers replacing all the divots at half time, it was pretty embarrassing. KK in true KK style threw his toys out the pram when the league refused permission to play the reserve games elsewhere. So he got round it by scrapping the reserves. Carrick stated he and his father then felt there was no obvious pathway from the youth side to the reserves and had no choice but to move on.

Being linked with a few clubs, Norwich, Southampton, Palace etc

I read we get 40%, his rumoured fee is around £20m, we should be all over him like a cheap coat

I doubt he'd want to come to us to be back up to Wilson.

He should go to Southampton where he'd be the main focus.

Doesn't he play off the left at times? Wilson won't always play anyway

Yes but I doubt he'd want to play there for us. Plus he's not a kid anymore so being back up won't wash it he has any ambition. I'd be signing for the team that guarantees me games in my favourite position

Point is we need another striker and a decent one, no player should be guaranteed a place but that’s what we seem to worry about. If Wilson gets injured we’ll all be moaning about lack of quality after him.

Rondon and Wilson as a front 2 would be lethal

Yes but Armstrong was never given the chance with us. He will know that he'll only start when Wilson is injured and as soon as he's back Armstrong will be dropped again. If I was him I wouldn't come anywhere near us.
We need someone who would be willing to pay second fiddle. Someone like Paul Kitson.

I think anyone would be mad to make Armstrong their main striker in the Premier League until he's proven himself at the level.

What about Wilson upfront with Max Armstrong and Almiron as the 3 behind

Really? The AV lad? Ings at Burnley? Andy Cole? Etc none of them were a bit part player for the ****test of teams.

I don't think he'd be a bit part player for us, Wilson and others miss enough games for him to start 25 games or so
