I think the people of Normandy were quite grateful to the Brits, Yanks and Canucks who liberated them. I always got a very good reception as a visiting Brit in Normandy and Brittany.

There were always going to be gulf wars, because a) the region was destabilised by the collapse of the Ottoman empire after WWI, and b) it's full of oil.

At the time of the D Day invasion Russia was already on the cusp of launching Operation Bagration. This would have gone ahead regardless of the second front. Army Group Centre of The Wehrmacht was completely shattered with all but 6 of 34 divisions totally destroyed. Nearly half a million German troops died with 300,000 captured. Two thirds of Wehrmacht corps commanders were killed or captured. Happy to help on the history question.
